Adsense on the forum

Unread post by Saul » Fri Aug 11, 2017 7:14 pm

Just a quick heads up. If you see a rather large blank space after each first post it is because I switched from the normal Adsense format to "contextual" adverts. This means Adsense scans the content of the first post and then tries to only display adverts that are relevant. In some cases it won't be able to find a match so there will be a blank space.

I thought it better to have relevant adverts rather than adverts for some obscure products none of us would ever be interested in.

Thanks Chris. I know people would rather there were no adverts at all but even the minuscule amount Adsense brings in is better than nothing. Not sure how long I will run with it though. Will monitor how it goes.

So, I am viewing this post gone 10PM on my iPAD before bed time, and this Ad sense malarkey is showing an advert for slippers on this thread? 8O

Will it be a pipe and smoking jacket next? ;)

Well I didn't know it was quite that clever Derek!

It's showing an ad for a PDF Toolkit App for me although how that is contextual I don't know.

I have seen a lot of ads for Kronos though and whilst it's pretty much wasted on me...only because I can't afford one, someone might find it interesting ;)

For me it's showing Roxio Game Capture, which is most likely because I was doing a lot of web searching the other day for video capture boards. Maybe if the first post doesn't have anything specific that can be used, it picks something from your cookies? For instance, the first post in this thread talks about Adsense, so maybe the ads we're seeing are related to Adsense in some way?

Your probably right there Michael. I guess it's "sort of" working. Right now it's showing an ad for Piano Restorers.

Not sure it will make much difference to the old revenue stats but will be interesting to see.

I'm now seeing Roxio Creator NXT 5. :)

A while back I'd installed Adblock Plus as an extension to the Edge browser-- but it seemed like it was causing problems with earning Microsoft Rewards points for browsing with Edge, so I eventually uninstalled it. A few targeted ads aren't going to kill me.

Yeah, but using Microsoft Edge will drive you insane. ;)

Derek, I have nothing to worry about on that account, as I was already driven insane long before I ever started using Microsoft Edge! :D

For some of us it's not a "drive" more of a very short "putt"!

For others of us, like Michael, were already over the edge!

I found this over on the Cakewalk forum in the coffee house.

But seriously ...

I'm now getting no ads at all, Saul, in the space after the first post.
I suppose it could be that all cookies, except the ones I define as needing keeping, get automatically deleted at the end of each session?

You do realise that I use Adsense on this forum? You must know that? Why are you posting a link to a guide on how to turn it off? Would you rather pay a subscription to access the forum?

"You do realise that I use Adsense on this forum?"

I know that.

"Would you rather pay a subscription to access the forum?"

No!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But... Why doesn´t YAMAHA give enough money, to run it without adsense.
Or does YAMAHA give anything at all? :?:

Anywhere these ads.

This whole "American ad(s) madness", Has - now finally - also flooded Europe.

I find that terrible.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not a problem, that YAMAHA MUSICIANS also uses adsense.
All do that.
On the whole it makes no difference.

I do not like it anyway.

I'm also shocked! The "BIG DATA" knows me so well, they know my wishes (worldwide?) very exactly.
Curious! I see products everywhere.I see "Tomato sauce" on YAMAHA MUSICIANS.
Just because I've been looking for it, with "google" yesterday.
Who knows now - worldwide - that I may like "Tomato sauce"?

That can not be true! :!:

This is my today's ad here on YAMAHA MUSICIANS. :-)

Adsense is an interesting topic.
i didn´t know, $3 per 1000 views, with adsense and youtube are possible.
