SY77 won't boot after proactively replacing battery :-(

Yamaha SY77 is a 16 voice multitimbral music workstation first produced by Yamaha Corporation in 1989. The SY77 is a synthesizer whose architecture combines AFM (Advanced Frequency Modulation) synthesis, AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) for ROM-borne sample-based synthesis, and the combination of these two methods christened Realtime Convolution and Modulation Synthesis (RCM).

Not that it MATTERS that much, but . . .

Its unlikely that a Yamaha agent will solder-in a holder. They'll most likely just replace the existing battery with the correct soldered-in one . . .

You're probably right about that. But then again, you never know if they are doing things a little bit differently now, or in regards to internal battery replacements. Does anyone know for sure how they have the internal batteries in the new boards? Same as what we've got with the SY77 or different? Has anyone had Yamaha replace the internal battery(s) in their new or vintage boards ever? If so, did they replace with the same exact setup?

Can't answer that. I wouldn't return a synth to a service centre just to replace a battery. :)

I would say Yamaha would go with the standard part, so you would get another soldered battery which is good for another 20 years.

I'm very surprised a little battery like what's in the SY77 would last anywhere near 20 years. More like 2 to 3 years is what I'd expect.

No, they can last that long. Some of mine have. I am certain my DX7II was the original battery and I replaced that in 2007. I put fresh batteries in my AN1x in 2008 and my SY99 in 2013.....
