Brad Davis – The Texas Tornado
TAKAMINE CLINICS FEATURING: Brad Davis
Brad Davis – The Texas Tornado
Brad started guitar lessons in his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas at the age of five. Shortly after, his brother Greg started playing the banjo and Brad started picking bluegrass. As teens, the duo formed into the bluegrass band Ten Degrees, recorded their first record and hit the bluegrass festival circuit.
Excited by an invitation to join Ricky Skaggs band, Brad wasted no time packing up and moving to Nashville. Once there, he discovered the job had been given to another musician. Scrambling for a way to pay the bills, Brad became a roving fiddle and guitar minstrel at Opryland. Brad’s talent caught the eye of many in Music City and Marty Stuart offered Brad a job in his band.
Ever since then, Brad had some of busiest fingers in Nashville, touring with Sweethearts of the Rodeo, the Earl Scruggs Family and Friends Band, Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Bush, as well as recording and performing as a solo artist.
Brad has recorded with Willie Nelson, Pam Tillis, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle, Travis Tritt, Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow, Warren Zevon, Joe Diffee, mark Chesnutt, and many others.
Brad writes a column for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and is the author of a line of music instructional courses distributed internationally by Mel Bay.

Brad’s Takamine Guitars
Brad is a dreadnought guy. His choices in Takamine are cutaway Nashville Series instruments. Both feature calibrated “bear claw” spruce tops, one with solid rosewood back and sides (TNV360SC) and one with solid mahogany back and sides (TNV340SC). Bracing is a vintage scalloped design, moved slightly forward for better low-end drive. Brad prefers a Takamine Cool Tube® preamp when he plugs in. Other than thousands of hours of practice and several truckloads of natural talent, there are no other secrets to the Brad Davis sound.
