Breedlove Guitars wanted to create a guitar that surpassed the sound of the traditional dreadnought.  Through our Sound Profiling technology, we designed the new Concerto body shape.  The new Breedlove Concerto is a scientifically designed new body shape that increases the size of the air chamber in the lower bout, reduces the size of the soundhole for more air compression, and maintains a defined waist for more comfort.  The result is a bigger, louder, richer sounding guitar with complex, textured tone.

Cocobolo is one of those woods that, when cut to a dimension, can feel heavy and dampens quickly.  Since it is the densest of all tonewoods, it needs to be treated differently than East Indian Rosewood or Honduran mahogany.  So through Sound Profiling we have identified that appropriate frequency pairing to maximize on the tonal quality of cocobolo.

Introducing the Masterclass Concerto E Adirondack Spruce – Cocobolo.  Part of Breedlove’s Masterclass series, this guitar is built by hand by master craftsmen in Bend, OR, U.S.A.  The series features master grade tonewoods and artistic design.  From the bound fingerboard to the Masterclass leaves inlay to the factory installed LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic, nothing is spared on this beautiful acoustic guitar.

But how does the Masterclass Concerto E sound?   “The guitar sounds even better than it looks, which is amazing considering how beautiful it is.  The complex overtones coupled with the great projection make it hard to put the instrument down,” says Miles Benefield, Breedlove Operations Manager.  Cocobolo, when perfectly utilized,  has a clean, deep and resonant tone.  Although it’s similar to Brazilian rosewood in sound, it has a little less bass and more pronounced treble.  Also like Brazilian rosewood, it has similar variation in sapwood, color, and figure.  Paired with a stiff Adirondack Spruce top it booms and keeps its clarity.

This guitar – and all models in the Masterclass series are available at your local Distinctive Dealer.
