Re: Thoughts and ideas on restoring SY77.

So if no one was doing any other mods like something custom it speaks at least of well built quality of this instrument and how it can stay in good shape for years. Well built yes :-) I'm not particularly interested in "modding" a synth except for things which keep them usable and reliable. eg flop...

Re: Thoughts and ideas on restoring SY77.

Side cheeks for sy77 are always in demand and if they ever (rarely) pop up on ebay, they are are usually sold soon after they are listed. Or, the sellers who part out (working) SY77's, often throw out the shell (cheeks as well) and only sell the smaller easier to pack interior parts. They often wont...

Re: Fun - With Adverts

The fun thing is, seeing adverts posted in another thread somewhere on here .... (I think it was parametric who posted them) because of this, after seeing those adds I instantly thought of Benson and Hedges when I was going through my CD's and next song (or piece) starts playing, Back's air.... I co...

Re: Fun - With Adverts

The thing I really hate (here in the U.S.) is that when the commercial comes on, they've jacked the volume up so loud that you grab the controller as fast as you can to turn it down. I've never understood why they would do something so repelling to sell something. They instantly make themselves odi...

Re: Floppy cable connector for SY77

Hi to all. ....cause for some reason one that was in my SY77 was soldered on one side directly to original floppy drive. This is the way they were made by Yamaha, as they did with the LCD screen as well. Rara 0-) Edit: you need this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-SY-77-SY77-MITSUMI-D357B-D357-B...

Re: Do you compose? How? "Where"?

Hey guys, sorry if this is not the appropriate section of the forum for this thread. If so, please change it to the appropriate place. So, do you compose? If so, what software do you use, or do you use "pen and paper" (music notebooks)? I used to do some compositions in Guitar Pro, using its piano ...

Re: Casio FZ-1/VZ-1 Aftermarket screen?

Assuming you don't care about the backlight, is the screen from a Casio FX-7000g a viable replacement? Would it be a simple drop in as long as the display pcb on the FZ is still functional? Unfortunately not a possibility, I have explored that idea and have made mention of it on this thread further...

Damn, that sucks though I wasn't optimistic. I really don't want to give up on this amazing synth.
I already have :-( it is pointless exercise trying to save it.

Re: Casio FZ-1/VZ-1 Aftermarket screen?

thanks for the tip, I have emailed them. I will not hold my breath.
there will no doubt be a tooling fee and an MOQ.
I'll wait for response from them. :-)

Edit: as I had expected from the reply, its not going to happen.
Fz-1's are a dying breed and will be the dodo of synths.

Re: Casio FZ-1/VZ-1 Aftermarket screen?

I forgot about the transformer bit, thanks for the reminder :-)
I did do that to mine as well. It was working well after that
for a few years before more pixels started dropping out
and screen was unreadable on power on.

Re: SY35 Test mode

How is that done? Does one have to disassemble the SY? Disassemble only as far as taking off the bottom cover. and test the battery in the usual way, with SY power off red wire of multimeter to battery positive and black to negative. I'll add some photos later if that helps :-) Rara 0-) edit: some ...

Re: What artist or band helped inspire you to create music?

I started the 70's at age 11 and ended it at 20. The first half was not great. School and me definitely did not have a happy coexistence. The main problem being I never needed to write anything down because I absorbed knowledge like a sponge. This lead to a lot of friction with teachers who could n...
