Re: SY99 Capacitor list/ Cap Map
I had to replace some capacitors on my DX7IIFD because I had faint audio coming out of 1 of the 2 channels and perceptibly scratchy audio when playing the keys with a heavier pressure. Sometimes the degradation is gradual and it is possible to become habituated to the change in sound. Failing/failed...

Re: SY99 Capacitor list/ Cap Map
Has anyone gone to the trouble of pre-emptively replacing their capacitors before any have a chance to unknowingly lose capacitance, leak and/or corrode the innards and traces of pcb's? Knowing that electrolytic caps have a finite lifespan, some will gradually lose capacitance while others may leak ...

Re: SY99: the 999-disk USB emulator (no software needed)
Thanks. I will be sure to use a vice carefully if I attempt this at home. I may also try and surf the internet to see if i can find a company that fabricates/sells custom cables according to customer specs..Also, how long is the ideal length of this cable? Also, kind of a dumb question because I hav...

Re: Simplest way to convert digital soundbytes to SY99 sampl
Thanks Clyde, AJay for your responses. Ajay- I wasn't looking at loading complete songs to listen to them on the SY99, but rather to edit small 'snippets' or soundbytes that I particularly liked on certain tracks and then transfer them to the keyboard to be used for synthesis.

Re: SY99: the 999-disk USB emulator (no software needed)
Thanks for the informative post. Is it possible to re-use the original 26-wire SY99 floppy ribbon cable and just modify the opposite end to accommodate a 34-pin connector? Then I would just need to purchase and adapt a 34-pin connector and fabricate a 4-pin power connector, not too difficult.

Re: SY99: the 999-disk USB emulator (no software needed)
Great project! ((i)) Just a couple logistical questions. The USB emulator is limited to reading folders smaller than 720KB (out of a necessary hardware limitation) for it to be able to communicate with internal SY99 architecture, I understand that much. So how is it a 999 disk emulator? I see that i...

Re: Simplest way to convert digital soundbytes to SY99 sampl
Thanks Derek. In addition to AWAVE for $99  does sy. factory librarian do conversions? Can you make a recommendation for a quality MIDI-to-USB cable that is guaranteed to work with the SY99? I bought a "universal" MIDI cable online for my old DX7II FD. However, it didn't not work beca...

My SY99 recordings
Hello all! I just wanted to share with you some of the simple melodies I have created using my SY99. All were entirely generated on the '99' in real-time without any added effects or processing. Mostly snippets of some old covers that include a few of my all-time favorites. Enjoy! Jess https://sound...

Simplest way to convert digital soundbytes to SY99 samples?
I recently installed all 5 of the SYEMB05 boards and am ready to start playing around with some audio samples up to 3Mb. I have lots of songs in my iTunes library (mostly .mp3 and WAV) that I'd like to convert over to a recognizable SY format and then transfer through the use of multiple 720KB flopp...

SY99 Sequencer Questions
Hello everyone, I've never used a sequencer before. Please don't shoot me down for asking some simple questions, as I have read the sequencer section of the SY manual several times but still have some basic questions concerning the use of it that I was hoping could be more directly and simply addres...

Re: SY99 Capacitor list/ Cap Map
Thanks for all these links! I tried them all. I am going to join that FB SY99 usergroup and have downloaded the original Service Manual from the chrisarndt site you posted. Watch out for that sendspace link. I tried downloading the schematics but instead of a file, it was an application that my anti...

SY99 Capacitor list/ Cap Map
Hello, Just curious whether anyone has a complete list of the specific capacitors used on the SY99 or a Cap Map, diagram(s), or other links/photos from a teardown that illustrate the location of various boards, and internals with good close-up shots. I'd like to study the innards for awhile before c...

Re: Help maxing out 720KB disks w/ sounds
Thanks Sonus. This is the same exact procedure I followed, except after step #3 the SY99 only reads SNDCOL3A and SNDCOL3B. The rest are hidden.
It's ok, I've accepted the fact this doesn't work and will just try another approach to saving files on disk.
