Re: Best Electric Guitars Under £300/$400/€340?

The kit route can be successful but only if you have some experience of working on guitars. I built a Chinese kit telecaster a year ago. But it was not just a case of following the instructions. The body needed a lot of additional final sanding before I stained and oiled it. I levelled and dressed t...

Re: Gibson Guitars - Poor Quality and High Prices

For me the issue with Gibson is the variability of quality. So "try before you buy" would be my motto. But then in my view every guitar is different no matter if the same people build them because each piece or combination of pieces of wood is different. I have had two Epiphone Les Pauls both black ...

Re: No Show For Gibson At NAMM 2018

Gibson stuff is a bit of an anomaly just now. I have played quite a few models recently. The simple stuff is very good for the money such as the SG Special which sounds and plays better than most for the money but are very basic. The lower priced ES335s for example are not well made. The more expens...

Re: Yamaha Revstar 502T update

Great to see good reviews for the Revstar. I have not played one yet. I probably will get a chance soon.

Re: Yamaha Revstar 502T update

Nuts are important. But benefits are not always audible. I have changed nuts on a few of my guitars. The most beneficial was on an Epiphone Les Paul which is now much more stable tuning wise. I fitted a bone nut as I usually do because I find them easier to work with. But when the SC400 was refrette...

Re: VG Standard for sale

It's on my watch list too I'm afraid. The seller changed to include being willing to post. Otherwise Aberdeen to Leeds would be too far.

Re: Good price for an SF500

That one is a good tidy example. Mine is not so nice, well played out but still sounds superb.

Re: Rare guitar for sale

Sorry for my recent absence. FZ100 is a surprisingly good guitar. I was playing mine yesterday after I gave it its annual "service" which includes a fretboard clean and recondition. The rosewood is the best of all my guitars. The neck is also one of the best of any guitar I have played. When I got i...

Re: This Yamaha SC800

My SC400 was refretted earlier this year. They were worn out from repeated dressing over the years. I presume the frets would have been the same when built as those on the SC800. I had medium width frets fitted. The wire was expensive US made and treated with... could it have been acid? to give more...

Re: Crackling pots on brand new 112V

There seems to be an earthing issue somewhere. The answer as Peter says is to take it back all together so it can be tested and the problem isolated. But if you have another guitar cable or can borrow one, try substituting to see if that helps eliminate a simple option.

Re: SGV and EGV

It is very sweet to play as well, with a real bark under overdrive. It has been played hard all its life so deserves a rest. But since the re-fret it has become a daily player and all rounder. Which says a lot for it.
