Re: how to load large files *.s1a, *.s1y to EX5

Hi again, finally I managed to install the scsi board from A3000 and to connect an old Iomega100 scsi drive into EX5. This way I can now load large files. Thanks for your very helpful suggestions. That's a great forum! I will certainly take a closer look at your xfactory-librarians later on, Derek. ...

Re: how to load large files *.s1a, *.s1y to EX5

Hi Derek, following your advice I found a cheap A3000 sampler for parts. It has all the components you mentioned including vintage 32MB DRAM, SCSI board, PSU, etc. The SCSI board is a Yamaha product, but I dont see anywhere that it "ASIB1" one. The only labels one can find there are XS532, MHE6784V-...

Re: how to load large files *.s1a, *.s1y to EX5

Hi Derek, thank you for your suggestions. Well, the price of second hand A3000 is nearly that high as EX5. Have to look for broken device, but then it is often not clear what still works and what not. Regarding ex.factory, as far as I understood it is a librarian which can import, manage and send bu...

Re: how to load large files *.s1a, *.s1y to EX5

Hi Derek, thanks for your suggestions. The preis of second hand A3000 is nearly the same as EX5. Have to look for broken A3000, but then you dont know what exactly works or not. Regarding your software: as far I understood it is basically a librarian which reads sysex files, managed them and sends t...

Re: how to load large files *.s1a, *.s1y to EX5

I have checked the floppy drive and it is in fact 1.44MB. I tried another disk and both s1a and s1y saved on EX5 could be read on PC as well. @Derek: Regarding Derek's suggestion: I have looked what is available on the web and found following RAM extensions: https://www.ebay.de/itm/64MB-2x32MB-Kit-R...

Re: how to load large files *.s1a, *.s1y to EX5

Hi, Derek. I am aware of limitations and imperfections of EX5. Just wanted to try the new/old sound. SCSI must be difficult nowadays. Is it possible to read larger EX5 file from modern USB-emulators of floppy drive or they are also limited to 1.44MB. By the way I read somewhere that EX5 is still usi...

Re: how to load large files *.s1a, *.s1y to EX5

Hi parametric, thank you for your response. Some files from online archives are, in fact, already split into series of files smaller than 720k, but many others are provided as single files of several MB size. May be there is a tool which can split such large files into smaller once in appropriate ma...

how to load large files *.s1a, *.s1y to EX5

Hi everybody, I have recently purchased a second-hand EX5 and wanted to load some sounds into it from floppy disks. As far as I understand EX5 floppy disk should be in 720k format. Surprisingly, some *.s1a, *.s1y, *.s1m files from online archives are significantly larger than 720k and even larger th...
