Can't be done. Use the FEG or the LFO.

Re: A 1MB non-volatile ram-card. Will it work?

That's a 30pin SIMM (volatile 8bit RAM), only used in the SY85 and must be fitted as a matched pair. No other synth in the SY/TG range can use them at all. Should've asked here before purchase. :naughty: You could always buy a second SIMM and an SY85 to put them both in. SY85 is easil...

Re: Are synthesizers addictive?

They used to be, back iin the day. However, VSTI has killed my desire for new hardware. I have not bought any new hardware since the varios and vsynths, all long gone now. I started selling off hardware 20 years ago and it was near enough gone within 5 years. I became fed up with the non stop obsess...

That's a flash flop not a flash SCSI unit.

Okie dokie.

Had a quick read through your review and couldn't find anything obvious. Certainly wasn't anything like a scathing review, maybe I missed something somewhere.

Re: Yamaha Montage Review

1) They still have VL synthesis in a product, so why drop it on the Western market? This kind of proves my point that Yamaha has some great technology in its arsenal. If it could drop half an FS1r into the Montage, why did they not go further and drop VL (as they have in that Electone) and AN into ...

Re: reface cp hands-on review

Did they not actually state the issue though?

I have pointed out in the past that comparisons with Kronos/Oasys isn't an apples and apples situation. Rather like comparing the SY77/TG77 to the SY85/TG500, each will do sounds that the other won't and has features that the other doesn't.

Re: New MX88BK Synth

I would "suggest" it would be nice to have another brainstorming session at Yamaha? Re: Reconsidering their position on releasing their landmark Synths as VSTis? - perhaps pointing out what their competitors are doing in this respect? (As if they don't know? ) parametric (The squeaky ...

Re: SCSI2SD read/write speed ?

The fault with the EX5/R/7 has nothing to do with the ASIB1 SCSI board and everything to do with the EX internal design being double hobbled. Even if Yamaha designed a SATA interface for the EX today, it would still be just as slow. I recall extrapolating the sample load times from Zip drive for 16M...

Re: NAMM 2017 Yamaha MONTAGE Firmware Update to Version 1.5

Ahh but there was "supposed" to be VA in Montage. When we went to the consultation meeting with Yamaha, way back before the Montage appeared and they were looking for input on what their next synth should be, they did say there would be two or more synth engines and one of them would likely be VA s...

Re: Yamaha Montage Firmware 1.5 update overview

The Montage preset waves/patches are soft content only, intended to appeal to certain users. I am not one of those users, so my preference is to start with a blank wave memory. For example, the Yamaha A3000 AWM2 rack synth powers up with blank wave memory, allowing me to use only my created sounds a...

Re: Yamaha Montage Firmware 1.5 update overview

Thanks for checking. Yes it would indeed erase all the samples, which is exactly why I want the option. :) Erasing the preset patches is already supported so no problem there, even though formatting the flash rom wouldn't wipe those. Montage doesn't have wave flash ram like the XF/MOXF/Tyros 4/5 hav...

Re: Yamaha Montage Firmware 1.5 update overview

Thanks for that.

Only had a quick read through certain parts, but no sign of option to format the entire 4GB wave flash rom. :( Expected it TBH. Maybe it's just not listed in there.
