Re: Apologies for absence and a discovery.

I'll try saying we're doomed, but it just doesn't work for me. Then again, I don't live in a city, so you do have my sympathy there. But get out of a city and the picture is different. Interestingly enough, there was a fascinating article in the Telegraph today about the current "climate" of defeati...

Re: Apologies for absence and a discovery.

"Honestly, Purcell, I'm glad I don't inhabit your universe." I'm really happy about that ... you live in yours! What is there in 2040, is no longer there or is still there ... nobody knows! Oh yes! Very harsh climate, worldwide floods and a worldwide lack of drinking water and food are likely to be...

Re: Apologies for absence and a discovery.

Hi, John Good to see you back. The thing with a Mac being more expensive, is that it isn't if you can afford the initial outlay (or spread it), as Jima says above, cost of onwership versus cost of acquisition. I am currently running on an iMac that is 7 years old and running as good as my newish PC ...

Re: unsuccessful search for sounds to EX7, request for help

Hi, As we have said, that should be any bank, and any voice other than the voice types not supported by the EX7. In all the years of us assisting to run EX5Tech, I have no recollection of EX7 owners complaining that EX5 banks could not be used.

Go on, give it a go. :)

Re: unsuccessful search for sounds to EX7, request for help

Hi, it should be OK to load an EX5 file into an EX7 (not that I've tried as I do not have an EX7) and all voice types other than those mentioned by Jima should sound fine. From your message I cannot tell if you have tried it and it doesn't work, or if you are just asking the question will it work? C...

No worries. Happy to help in a small way. I've probably spent too long over the years gazing at Yamaha data structures! ;)

Re: Yamaha TG100 sysex dump request message

Hi. One immediate problem I can see is that the 3rd byte in your message set as 0x10, when it should be 0x20 in the top 4 bits. The bottom 4 bits is the SYSEX device number (0x0 to 0xf) usually set to Device 1 (0x0) and the receiving synth is usually set to ALL anyway (so ignores the contents of the...

Re: TG100 sysex dump request message

Hi, I do not have a TG100 myself, but after taking a quick look at the PDF manual, it looks SY like but not 100% identical. You don't actually say what steps you have taken or what you have checked, so starting from first principles Assume you have a good MIDI interface, not a cheap $10 USB MIDI lea...

Re: FS1R on eBay for $500!

Shame you have missed out on one. It is one of Yamaha’s unsung heroes. It has quite a different character to the more conventional 6op FM and can sometimes be a little hard in character. However if I want to add something to a song that is subtle and totally different to what else I have going on in...

Re: How to replace the display in an EX5

These old displays can look a bit old hat compared to the new ones. It depends on the synth and controller of course. You probably stand more of a chance with a pure dot matrix display, although I recollect from memory that EX5_Etc looked at it for the EX5 and could not find a suitable model due to ...

Re: SR-JV flash? (or: encryption from hell.....)

Thanks. It was a really interesting challenge that would not have started without Brian going into the hardware reverse engineering, but I was happy to play my part. Over the years I have developed an eye for reverse engineering Yamaha file structures, but this ROM based format was challenging compa...
