Re: Yamaha Idea Scale CS80 Questionnaire

This brings up an interesting point -- what is it about certain 'legendary' instuments that made them so? I've had the good fortune to play around on two CS80's recently for quite a number of hours -- one at the Synthplex show, and the other at the Yamaha SynthSpace Studio. And it reinforced to me t...

Some great pictures there, Manny. The DX1 is a monster. Please do share the podcast details once you have them.
Will do. IIRC Blake said they should release in about a month...

Re: NAMM 2019 - The Secret Yamaha Synth Room

Lovely room, but probably still a few classics missing that I didn't see - haven't watched fully from start to finish - although I guess they are picking one model in places. E.g. A CS30 as the peak of the CS monosynths. The CS80 as the peak of the CS polys, etc. No AN1x - but looks like it is usua...

Re: New Screen Replacement Option

Hey, DrF Sorry for the tardy reply -- unfortuantely no, I don't know how to 'back up' the original firmware other than pulling the chip, and using the 'read' function of my chip burning software/hardware. You might want to inquire at the FlashFloppy web page at https://github.com/keirf/FlashFloppy/w...

Only one answer to that: Gear Affliction Syndrome = G.A.S
Ah . . . . I always interpreted it as Gear Acquisition Syndrome

And here I thought the viral variant was "Got Another Synthesizer"

Re: Peculiar SY99 Battery Issue

Afaik the batteries voltages are measured on pcb DM1. If you take a look to the schematic there's IC130 (Multiplexer 74HC4052) which 'collects' those values: IBT1 (Internal Battery 1) leads to Pin15 (X2), IBT2 (Internal Battery 2) leads to Pin11 (X3), CBT (Card Battery) leads to Pin14 (X1). The out...

Peculiar SY99 Battery Issue

This weekend I got the common 'WARNING - change INT wave battery" message on one of my SY99's and duly replaced the battery (easy as I installed battery holders a few years back), powered back up & got the same message again. ?!? Tested the new battery - all good at 3.15V. Made sure it was in the ho...

Hi Manny. I changed the setting about PMs. Not sure why I had it that way so far. You may try again when you get a chance.

Thanks.

Re: New Screen Replacement Option

Hi Manny. I did not keep up with the USB emulators after I finished adding them to basically every device I had. I think the last one was the QX5FD. Up to that time the firmware on the 720k Gotek was original. But now the original firmware is a hit-and-miss. Sad. Useful information to have though, ...

Re: New Screen Replacement Option

Hi Manny. BuyDisplay.com had more options of 240x64 displays in the past but now they are down to those you mentioned. The same holds true for crystalfontz.com that is down to only 3 options now. I bought displays from both of those vendors. The service has been decent, the documentation adequate a...

Re: New Screen Replacement Option

Thanks for the kind words. The SY99 is special to me for reasons that take me back to my years as a poor undergraduate student at the university. I still recall the visits to the local Yamaha dealer store just to see and touch the SY99 that was super expensive and way out of my ability to purchase ...

Re: Yamaha SY, FM backwards compatible patches

Great to see the Montage is (indirectly, in your example...) getting people back into FM ! So, some irony here -- Blake actually mis-spoke in that video -- "American Garage" is a single element AWM2 sound, not FM. Still it inspired you to go out and recreate it on your SY, and made yourself a nice s...

Re: New free USB Floppy Emulator firmware option

Hello everyone. Long time no post. I just want to share my experience using flash floppy. It works great in the gotek hardware regardless of what version it is. I’ve tried both sfr1m44 and sfrm72 and flashed using type A to A cable with defuse software. Both worked flawlessly in my sy77 and sy85. E...

Re: SY77 booting in a loop

Rara, I came over here to see what threads might help after I made that reposnse to your Facebook post, and you've been here all along trying to sus this out for quite a while! Seeing what you've already tried in detail really makes me think its not a EPROM/CPU issue, but some kind of other voltage ...
