AN1X Ribbon Controller issues

My recently acquired, otherwise in very good condition AN1X has a really squirrelly Ribbon controller is more or less constantly outputting random values (X Axis only as far as I can tell). Any thoughts, previous experience ??? or schematics (which are sadly missing from the Service Manual I have......

Re: SY77 floppy emulator. Again!

I must admit though that reading all different kinds of advice regarding SY85, SY77 and SY99 compatibility I am a bit puzzled. It seems that people have used predominantly these GOTEK models: SFRM72-FU-DL SFR1M44-FU-DL SFR1M44-U100K Given, that a 34-26 pin connector cable can be found on ebay, whic...

Re: new LCD : What color did you choose ?

I've got the Black on Green, the White on Black, and White on Blue displays on a few of my SY's and TG's. IMHO the Black on Green is the most readable in varied conditions and angles, but esthetically is the least favorite of mine. Only one I've not tried is the Black on White. I have a slight prefe...

Re: DX7ii patch demos - sound source banks

You are correct, the TX802 bank is for the G10 / MIDI guitar controllers.

Re: Got a EX5!

Finally! Found an EX5r at a fair price, fully loaded with Ram and Flash. The seller also had the SCSI board and the digital output board that I passed on (hopefully not foolishly) to get the price in my range. I bought it as part of my mid-life crisis quest of fleshing out my collection of all the Y...

Re: SY99 and General MIDI Format 0 and/or Format 1

DrSynth - Manny, this is good to know. I will have to figure all of that out - recording live to the program. I tried to "Copy Track" but kept getting errors - I guess because Channel 16 is the pattern channel you cannot just copy it to another track. I may try the "Put Pattern" that you mention, b...

Re: SY77 favorite sounds?

FYI, The Sound Source Source Unlimited Disks for SY77/99 that are sold by Greytsounds are those programmed by Dave Polich (most of them, IIRC) and a couple by Bob Frey. For a myriad of reasons I pulled all my SSU DX/TX/SY voicebanks from distribution when Greytsounds acquired the assests of Sound So...

Re: Yamaha VP1 Harmonics

Update... good news, today we got a new battery & new floppy drive installed into the VP1, and Reinhold was able to load his custom performances A-OK. Next is to replace the display and diagnose a glitchy voice channel -- one of the 16 voices doesn't shut off correctly at key off when the Voice Elem...

Re: SY99 and General MIDI Format 0 and/or Format 1

How can I get the entire MIDI information, including track/channel 16, into a format that will be usable by a General MIDI editor (I have Anvil Studio)? Is there a work-around that someone has tried? Thanks for any and all help! John The simplest way to do this is to play the files from your SY Son...

Re: Yamaha VP1 Harmonics

Well, it took longer than anticipated - Reinhold is a busy guy - but we finally got together right before NAMM. Unfortunately, he hadn't used it in quite a while, and the internal battery(ies?) were low and the memory got corrupted. Disk drive belt dried out, so could not load in his backups from fl...

Re: Behringer ARP 2600 - Better than the KORG ARP 2600?

I played the Korg 2600 for an extended period of time. Think of it as a modernized continuation of the original, i.e. case, speakers, reverb , keyboard, etc. they're all there The Behringer is a different take, it's a "tone clone" of the 2600 -- like Deckard's Dream is a "tone clone" of CS80. They g...

Re: Discover The Expressive E Osmose

From all the demo videos I've seen this will be quite interesting, and the EaganMatrix sound engine is pretty cool. Should interface well with Sculpture within Logic. Roli boards don't quite do it for me because of how playing the rubbery surface feels, but the same level of multi control stream imp...

Re: How do you transfer floppy disks to a MacBook?

The old VST Tecnologies USB Floppy drive for the original CRT Candy colored iMacs (model FDUSB-M) is what I use to read both 720K and 1.44M floppys from my SY99, DX7II and VL1 into my Mac running El Capitan (OS 10.11.6) It is ...Slow.... also while it will read/write the 1.44M HD floppy's, it will o...

Re: Yamaha VP1 Harmonics

Followup on the history of the US Prototype VP1 Unit -- the Boddicker / MJ unit that Dave Polich used for some preset voicing. This unit circulated for quite a while, actually spending two stints with Scott Kinsey, along with some time with Nate Tschetter of Yamaha. Scott mentioned to me that he was...
