Roland SH-101 - Discuss?

A whole sub-forum dedicated to Roland and not one mention of the 'classic' SH101 analogue monosynth? Does anyone else have one? I know these were horribly limited in their way, they were to analogue synthesisers what the Sinclair ZX81 was to computers - very basic, but nonethless functional up to a ...

Re: SY55 doesn't remember local off setting

I know this is quite old but for the record I think my SY22 does the same. The thing is, if you switch off the synth, remove it from your PC setup and take it somewhere else the synth will appear to be 'dead', at least in terms of sound output, if the unit stays in Local Off mode. So that's why it d...

Re: TX81Z firmware upgrade- worth the hassle?!

Thanks to a helpful forum member (he knows who he is) I'm now able to lay my hands on a complete set of TX81Z firmware eprom images. For anyone else looking for the same thing or anything else about the TX81Z, a a visit to this TX81Z specific web page may prove very useful. http://the-all.org/tx81z/...

Re: TX81Z firmware upgrade- worth the hassle?!

I have a TX-81Z so I'm interested in the prospect of updated firmware for it, but unfortunately the link in post #2 of this thread appears broken. Did it go somewhere else, or is it no longer available?

Re: SY35 Low headphone output

Before we get started can I ask by what means you have decided that the line level outputs, as well as the headphone outputs, are low? Measuring with a scope, or...? The inputs to the headphone amplifier AND to the line level outputs comes from two voltage-controlled amplifier ICs. The volume contro...

Re: MIDI Voice bank changes in PSR E303

Yes, the PSR-E303 uses XGlite, which is a reduced version of XG. Some of the extended abilities that were added to GM by GS and XG were later incorporated into GM2. Until this conversation I didn't even know there was a GM2! I need to correct something I'd said. GM2 uses Channels 10 and 11 for drum...

Re: MIDI Voice bank changes in PSR E303

Delta-times are used only in MIDI files, since any device or program that plays the file needs to know when to perform each event. When MIDI messages are streamed live, there are no delta-times in front of each event, since an event isn't sent until it's time to perform that event. MIDI clock ticks...

B0 00 7F (B0) 20 00 C0 00 (second 'running' status byte can be omitted) Sonus, thanks for this illustration as well. Armed with all of this, I should soon be able to 'get bank selecting' on the 303. Edit: Just noticed you've added a little bit of Notator in there :-) It's actually Cubase 2 that I u...

I really appreciate your having taken the time to set everything out so clearly in the way that Yamaha's own documen...

MIDI Voice bank changes in PSR E303

I use an old Atari ST sequencer program which can only send program change messages in the range 1-128 - there is no direct facility for sending voice bank switching messages. Therefore, if I want to send a program change which will select a voice in one of the 303's other banks I first have to send...

Re: Single Voices Play Fine but Multi Mode = No Sound

Based on my ownership of the SY22, quite a few of the Preset multis are set up so that all of the multi parts receive on the same channel, but each multi part responds only to certain note ranges. It's quite flexible like that. You can program, say, a bass sound on the lowest octave of the keyboard ...

Re: SY35 output problem

Aghh! Can't believe I didn't see the 'Attach' button - I was looking at all the other function/tool buttons along the top edge of the editor box, it never occurred to me that the 'Attach' button would be somewhere else. OK, so here goes - this is the area around the headphone amplifier IC32, seen af...

Re: Lifetime of firmware in EPROMs

I'm in the UK, in the Arctic North (Tyneside). I don't know enough about CD/DVD -R, -RW, +R, +RW etc to agree or disagree with your theory that RW discs might endure better because they use a metallic medium rather than light sensitive dyes, although common sense suggests you must be right. The prob...

Re: Lifetime of firmware in EPROMs

The question of what to back precious EPROM firmware up onto is a thorny problem in itself. Optical media (CD, DVD is sensitive to sunlight and, left exposed to light, will not last very long. Kept in the dark, they fare a little better but I personally would not keep anything important backed up on...
