New Anti Spam Registration Measures

Due to the increasing number of spam registrations to the site (60 today so far) I have had to tighten up the anti-spam measures on the registration page. I know some people will find this a complete pain in the ass but honestly I really don't have enough time in the day to go through each registration checking if it's a spammer or not. A few is fine but hundreds per day is not. With this in mind I have implemented a new KeyCaptcha which must be completed before the registration can be submitted.

KeyCaptcha is a series of images which must be dragged together to form the complete image given in the top right of the window. It does require rather precise alignment and I know some people may find this a problem but hopefully the majority will persevere and understand that we need to keep this site free of spammers. If we don't then the wonderful archive of material we have all built up over the years will become completely unusable and our efforts will have been wasted.

If for some reason you cannot complete the captcha successfully you can always contact me and I will look into it for you. I have thoroughly tested this myself by the way and although it takes longer than a normal registration it only adds maybe 30 seconds or so and the effort is worth it if you really want to become a part of our community.

Seems a very sensible measure to keep the spammers at bay.

I agree, whatever needs to be done. I know one of the NASCAR sites I go to has been hit hard recently with spam and is making changes also.
