new to the MX61...could use some help/advice?

Unread post by strat62 » Fri May 18, 2018 4:39 am

hello all,

i'm the guitar player in my band but it's been decided they want to do some tunes that require keys.

i can play a little (faking it really) but my gadget IQ would fit on the head of a pin, all those knobs :?

specifically, i'm looking for a patch/sound that can cover or get close to MJ's "Billie Jean"

thought i had one that sounded pretty good thru headphones but live.....not good

anybody do this song? thanks in advance

I'm thinking that if the patch sounded pretty good through headphones but not through loudspeakers, it may have just been a question of finding an equalizer setting or something like that. Also, adding some reverb or chorus can help sometimes. Was the sound too thin in the live situation, or not enough bass, or what?

I think Michael pretty much summed it up there. This is likely down to EQ given that it sounded ok through headphones.

The sound is probably being lost in the mix so just needs a little EQ tweaking to make bring it up a little. Can you tell us what your running your keyboard through when playing live?

thanks for the suggestions for chorus/reverb/EQ adjustments. the mixer is a Mackie 802VLZ4 8-channel

i am a noob when it comes to these things. i was hoping i could just dial up a patch and play,

reality is that it's never that easy :)

thanks again,

"Billie Jean" ... click it all links!

How to Play Billie Jean by Michael Jackson on Piano :!:

Michael Jackson Billie Jean Midi Piano Synthesia ( These are the keys you have to press. )

Billie Jean (Michael Jackson) - Piano Tutorial

The real sound comes in expensive studios with sound engineers etc.! Micheal Jackson had enough money for it.
(And that is also the eternal problem of the keyboarder!
Using cheap simple instruments and equipment ... to produce the same sound that was created professionally.)
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... ean++synth

That may sound primitive or mechanical! But that's just how MIDI files work.
Just for orientation or for the notes / keys you have to press.

If you are lucky...you find something that really helps you.

But if you suddenly want to play keyboard / or even synth - that can be a problem.
Others need decades to cope with the synth! Especially with YAMAHA synths! But other synths (Roland/Korg etc.) are complicated too.

Sit down at the MX 61! Good luck!

He plays only some chords with the MX 61 ... on a playback behind!

Try to contact: Thiago Gomes (video above) or Oyster Lovers (both keyboarders are outstanding) via (pm) youtube.
Possibly they can help you.
