yamaha BB 40th anniversary

Unread post by hypercarrots » Wed Mar 22, 2017 7:07 pm

2017 marked 40 years of BB. I wonder if they'll do anything special. BB1200 came out in 1977. How about a BB1200 reissue?

Well doesn't look like there is going to be anything special on the horizon. Winter NAMM came and went with nothing and so did MusikMesse. Perhaps something at Summer NAMM but there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity at the moment.

Yamaha did make some nice new BB basses, slightly Revstar(ish), but a BB-1200 reissue would have been a nice tribute to the 40th. anniversary.

Can definitely see the revstar influences there. Like the look of the 734 but would still like to see a BB-1200 reissue.

That is one very nice selection of bass guitars there HC ;) I know very little about Yamaha's bass guitars but I have a leaning toward the one at the far right of the picture which I think might be one of the newest ones?

Thank you Saul and Buzzard. The one on the far right is a BB734a. Saul, I think I saw you say that would be your preferred choice out of the new bb lineup. It sounds good and is well built but I like the two BB1200S and BB1200 better. Coincidentally, those 4 are made in Japan. I think the pickup is where the magic is. The fact that they are neck through is a big factor as well.
