Yamaha G100 112 speaker replacement

Unread post by tommie milwaukee » Thu Feb 22, 2018 9:31 pm

I've had this amp for over 35 years. It still works great, but it may be due for a speaker replacement. Any suggestions on what to replace the stock Yamaha speaker with?

Hi Tommie, welcome to the forum and the string section. :D

Being a Yamaha amp fan, I wouldn't change the speaker unless it's damaged,
and even then, I would have it re-coned to keep it close to original.

Your G-100 112 was fitted with a Yamaha JA-3062 from the factory.
specs: diameter: 12"/30cm. , 8 ohm. , 100 watts (RMS) / 300 watts (peak)

Finding a replacement is easy, as long as it can handle 100 watts continuously.
Your local music pusher may have something laying around that can be installed and tested.

Best Regards

I think that's a fine idea there from Buzzard . . . .

I re-coned a pair of Tannoy Dual-Concentrics (12") just before I left the Uni.

I found that it helps with Centering the cones, if you put a ~3Hz tone through the Speaker before you clamp the surround in place.

The tannoys were clamped with a series of curved "fishplates" fixed with nuts and bolts.

Seldom, is there anything wrong with the Chassis IME . . . .

You then effectively end up with NEW Speakers . . . . 8)

I think the first criteria is the sound that these amps were intended to produce. They were made to be similar to the old Fender amps (not for metal, grunge, etc.). With that in mind, you may want to look at Celestion Vintage, Jensen "C" Series, or Eminence Legend. Sometimes you can find the original speaker on eBay or Reverb.

To learn more about the history/design intent of these amps check out a Yamaha G Series amp video on YouTube presented by leading designer Paul Rivera, Sr.

I cannot currently insert links so all I can offer is go to YouTube and search for this title
