Tell me about my OLD cabinet!

Unread post by davehudson » Wed Feb 07, 2007 3:24 am

Hiya,

I'm new here, but I figured this would be the place to come to find out more about my old yamaha cab that I have. Here's what I know:

It's a Yamaha J 140s 4 x 12 guitar cab. At least I believe it's a guitar cab, although that's only because of the 12" speaker thing.

It's rated 240 watts at 8 ohms.

When were these made? What was their reputation? What kinds of speakers did they use?

I can't get the back off the cab, so I can't tell what the speakers are.

Anyone know anything about these cabs?

They look old. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave,
Welcome to the Forums! I don't have any insight for you on these cabinets, and unlike old synthesizers, I have not found a site with info on older speaker cabs. Perhaps one of the other forum members will be able to give you some info.

Better late than never. :D

It's a Yamaha J-140S , 412 cabinet.

Here's a good link to a pdf file with specs from the 1977 amp catalog:

Nice find on the brochure site there Peter :)

Dave, this is what the JA3059 speaker looks like should you ever get the back off.

Cheers Saul.
Once I saw the picture, I just realized that my Yamaha G-100 212 II combo have two of these speakers inside.
Connected in parrallel, they should be able to handle 120 watts from the 100 watt amp.
However , I doubt I'll ever try it out at max volume, my ears start to hurt about half way.

Anyway, this 412 cab should be great and plenty loud for live gigs. ((i))
