The only problem was trying to decide between it, the 10C and 10X as I love a classic sounding amp but like to play a metal sound as well.
I would say that is just about the only thing wrong with the whole THR range. You should not have to choose between them. They are all the same amp it is just the installed software that makes them different. Yamaha COULD have put everything in one box but that probably would not have kept the accountants happy.

Still, congrats on the purchase. There is no doubting they are great little amps :)

I just got a THR 10 with carry case the other day with an Ebay coupon.
I am very impress with sound quality, effects, and portability especially with the optional battery.

No worries there, the (standard off white) THR-10 can do metal too, it's the all rounder.
If you jump to our THR patch download page, I'm sure you'll find something you can use or modify to your needs.
Go get 'em here:  viewtopic.php?f=135&t=9613

For those ultra high gain meral needs, I've found that the THR series take pedals quite well.

You're absolutely right, THR amps work well with most pedals.
A booster/overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedal can take the THR amp over the top, and beyond.
Since most electric guitar players own at least one drive pedal, this is a great way to get metal sounds.

If a THR owner posts about their amp NOT telling if they have other effects,
I try to make do with what the THR is capable of as a stand alone amp/effects unit.

Any of you guys have a G50 112 (first series) service manual or pcb lay out? I do have the schematics.

Leon

BTW: weird thing. I got some much older solid state Yamaha amps. No problems with capacitors there (yet). In this G50 112 some electrolytic capacitors were very bad.

Thanks,

None of that looks like my preamp PCB I'm afraid :( .

I clearly have a problem in the preamp. Changed some bad leaking electrolytic capacitors, but that didn't solve the problem till now. Working through the tone stack now.

I bought this one becourse of the great cosmetic condition, but it has cost me a few evenings already to fix the problem.

But who cares, repairing old Yamaha's is a hobby too :?
