THR10X USB communication error

Unread post by guitmore » Wed Nov 29, 2017 3:32 am

Hi,

I just brought a brand new THR10X and I always have "USB communication error" when I try to connect it to the THR editor. I have install/reinstall the lastest 1.9.10 driver wich seen to work since I can use the THR10X as my main audio card. I also have select the THR10X in the "DATA In" and "DATA Out" of the Edit/Preferences menu of the editor with no success. I have contact the Yamaha support but they have no clue yet. Here are my pc configurations:

1) I use Windows 10 version 1703 64 bits.

2) I'm using the usb cable that was given with the THR10X. Also, I have tried multiple other usb cable and tried different usb port. I have disconnected all usb device exept THR10X and usb mouse/keyboard. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the lastest available version of THR steinberg driver and THR editor at least two time and have reboot pc in between installation before plugging the THR amp. The error is always "USB communication error". Otherwise the "usb data out" port of the THR10X seen to work fine since I am able the use it as my main audio card to listen to music.

3) I have been able to connect the THR10X on a old laptop running windows 7 and was able to connect the amp to the editor. It seen to work, so I suspected a driver issue or THR editor compatibility issue with Win10.

Hope someone can help with this one or the unit going back to the store :x

Thanks

That is really annoying guitmore,

From what you have written, I cannot see ANYTHING that you have done WRONG . . . .

It is well known that the Yamaha/Steinberg driver installation is EXTREMELY fussy about the order in which things are done during installation . .

Double check that the Driver is CORRECT for your 64bit Win10 - and follow EXACTLY the order of play - with respect to plugging the THR IN etc.

It seems to matter incredibly that this is adhered to in the extreme.

( I think it may be to do with PREVENTING Windows from attempting to install its own driver -

BEFORE the YAM/SB has had a chance to install IT'S driver - IYSWIM?)

Annoyingly, slight deviations from "the procedure" seem to result in what appears to be "a successful installation" - except it doesn't quite work :x

Which seem to be what you are experiencing . . . ?

As I've said, I can't really see what you are doing wrong . . . . . !

perhaps another user may stop by, who has experienced this and perhaps, solved it?

Hi guitmore, Welcome to the forum and the string section. :D

THR amps will (usually) work with computers using Windows: XP , 7 , 8 and 10

Since you got it running with an old laptop using win 7, your THR should be ok.
It looks like your computer ports and/or the Steinberg USB driver used is causing the problem.
Try one of the older drivers, it might do the trick.

Best Regards

Thanks for the reply.

I have already tried older driver version and even the beta version available on Steinberg website... I have a lot gear that I use without any issue... like eleven rack, korg editor, rocksmith, Jamvox, which are old but still working. The date of release of the last update of the Yamaha THR editor just make me realize the product is probably at the end of it's life cycle.... and not update frequently...

Well, it's probably a software compatibility issue.... but it's the first time I won't be able to get around it. Any other clue would be welcome...

Now I'm in deep water, computers is not my strongest point.

Just a thought, could some of your other drivers or software interfere with the THR software ? , somehow blocking the port needed ?
Can you deactivate some of it without deleting anything ?
Is there less software/drivers in your windows 7 laptop that actually worked with your THR ?

Yeah, I'm surprised too, but very happy to hear that the THR software is finally up to standard after the windows update. ((i))

New member here. I finally had to ditch Windows 10 for similar resons as well as others. MS in it's infinate wisdom will undo or replace drivers with what it thinks is a better solution. Win 10 will do this on it's own without permission and no imput from you. The protection of it's OS superseeds any 3rd party drivers that are written expressly for a given application. I went back to Windows 7 pro 64 bit and have had no issues since. When support for Win 7 ends,I'll be going to Linux or Mac. Windows 10 is a disaster imo.
