No sound from THR10

Unread post by The Twickerman » Thu Jan 31, 2019 9:33 pm

Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone has any suggestions. I've been using my THR for home practice (along with a PC connected via USB). When I turned it on this evening, there was no sound. Not from the instrument input or the USB connector. Furthermore the tuner fails to register any input signal. What on earth could have happened?
All the preset buttons seem to work, and the tuner lights up, as it should.
Have I done something stupid?
Help!
- Nick.

Hi Twickerman,

have you tried to power the amp with another power supply ? With batteries ? Try also with USB unplugged.
Can you use it as a soundcard from your PC ?
Is there some humming if you choose "Modern" with high gain and master ?

You can try to reset it: https://usa.yamaha.com/support/faq/guit ... /7745.html
but probably it resets only the presets button...

Have you checked the power adapter, is it connected? The batteries have to be fine and charged as well. Once checks that. The insty=ument is properly connected to the input jack or not? These are the basic things that have to be checked.

No hum, no sound, nothing. Not through the speaker or the headphone socket.

I didn't think it'd be the PSU (it seems to be functioning properly - besides the silence - obviously) - but to be sure I just tried it with brand new batteries and it made no difference.

I checked the manual and there's no mention of a mute function (except for when you plug in headphones).

Looks like it'll have to go to the repair shop.

Very sad.

I am sorry for you :( , it is such a great amp.
Yes, a circuit in the THR seems dead... How old is your THR ?

I bought it second hand about 8 months ago. It was nearly new.

It's off to the amp hospital tomorrow...

Hopefully it's something relatively trivial (i.e. not too expensive) to fix.
