2009 SG 1000

Unread post by Jimmy100 »

I've got the chance to buy one for a good price. Can anyone fill me in on the details? I thought the SG had finished by then. However it's got a certificate etc.

I'm a Revstar player and I love that guitar which is why I'm interested in the SG.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Jimmy, welcome to the forum and the string section. :D

If the price is good, go for it.
You can always sell it again if it isn't what you expected.

Best Regards
Peter

The SG-1000 was still in production in 2009.

Yamaha Japan made the announcement of the end of SG-1000/2000/3000 production in early 2010. Production of the SG-18XX series likely began at the same time and models became available in shops by the third quarter of 2010.

Don't know what happened overseas but the SG1000 and SG2000 were introduced in the 2008 European catalogs stating "new reissues to celebrate the 30th anniversary". Handbuild like the old specs but now using "Yamaha Initial Response Acceleration" to make them sould old when being young 8).

They were still there in the 2009 catalog. The 2010 calalog shows both the old series: SG1000, 2000 and 3000, and the new series like the SG1820 etc. In the 2011 catalog the old series is gone.

Jimmy,

Noticed you're from Australia. Perhaps that's more 'domestic market' for Japan. My previous post is from an European point of view. SG1000 production stopped around 1985. As I mentioned the EU market got the first reissue SG1000's round 2008. For the domestic market some SG1000's appear in Japanese catalogs from 1998/99 on.

Would the 2009 SG1000 be as good quality as the 1820 series or are we talking a completely different class of guitar. Like Fender Custom shop?

Played some late SG1000's and SG2000's. Fantastic guitars and fantastic build quality. Looking at the ridiculous prices you have to pay for the SG1820 series I think you can assume they have the same high quality. (Never played a SG1820 series though. Not going to either. Still bewildered they stoppes making the 1000 and 2000 and starting the new series :( )

I bought it in the end and it's a beautiful guitar. Without a doubt the best made instrument I own, it also sounds epic.

Thanks for the information provided here as there isn't really too much on youtube etc regarding the SG1000.
