SG-1000 [2007 - Sort of lacquer (nitro/poly/??)

Unread post by adrian142 »

Hi all,

I am thinking of a re-finish for my Yamaha SG-1000 from 2007.
Mine is black at the moment but I would like the jade-green/deep-green of some elder SG-1500/SG-2000 models.

Now I was asked what kind of lacquer (nitro/poly/??) the guitar is painted with.
I don't know and my research up until now was unsuccessful.

So I hope that I am here at the right place to get my question answered.
Thx in advance,
-Adrian

Hi Adrian,

I have some catalog with these recnent SG1000 in it, none of them specifies the type of lacquer. When it is nitro Yamaha normally mentiones that in the specs. So I think it's poly, as were the old SG's and as far as I know almost all Yamaha electrics.

Thx, Leon, for Your answer.

Though if it is poly it means that it will be another 300 bucks und top of the 1400 bucks for a complete re-finish.

Best, Adrian

That would be 1700 euro 8O ? I'd go for a vintage SG1500. That's the guitar that shows up the most often in green.

That is what I am thinking of right now.
Even without the "poly-upgrade" to me it sounds too expensive.

Pitty is that here in Germany not a lot of those vintage SG1500 in green are offered.
I think, patience is key... and king.

I also would be willing to swap (my black against a green one), maybe paying an "upgrade price".
Is there a place here on the boards where I could place such an offer?
