SG700S pot is bust - help please

Unread post by Billy Smalls » Tue May 15, 2018 2:41 pm

Hi Everyone. My first post and long overdue maybe?

I bought a SG 700s several years ago and love the guitar. The only 'problem' is I now dream too much about owning an SG 2000 or 3000!! ha ha

The 700s is from 2003 I believe and all original except for the nut that was replaced with bone when I had it set up a few years back. It's the rather pretty green & black and is in excellent condition - a little localised buckle rash on the rear pot cover, a small but nicely fixed ding on the bottom edge and the hardware finish is holding up nicely.

The reason I discovered this forum is, as is often the case, to ask a question. Not sure if there is a more specific part of this forum to address this but here goes....

So, this guitar comes with the push-push pots for the split coils. Sadly last night the bridge pot bust!! Upon closer inspection, the push/push switch part has lost it's little copper(?) spring, so it's not clicking on/off. It's an ALPS pot and I'm having a hard time finding a replacement. I think these MAY be the same as in the SG 2000S models?

Has anyone any experience of locating a correct pot or recommend a worthy (and more importantly correct length) replacement?

Thanks in advance.

I dare throwing in two websites which have a good amount of (guitar) replacement parts - perhaps you'll find one that fits your needs?

www.thomann.de

www.rockinger.de

In the upper right corner you can switch the language of the site(s) to English...

Hope it helps

We have a few more topics looking for push-push pots.

Unfortunately Yamaha SG guitars use 500Kohm for volume and 300Kohm for the tone controls.

Most push-push pots are only available in 500Kohm and 250Kohm

500Kohm.: http://www.warmoth.com/Push-Push-Pot-50 ... -P732.aspx and https://www.thomann.de/gb/allparts_push ... i_500k.htm
250Kohm.: http://www.warmoth.com/Push-Push-Pot-25 ... -P731.aspx and https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton ... l_284033_0
