Yamaha FP9 Direct Drive Double Pedal

Unread post by CarolDrums » Sat Aug 31, 2019 11:26 pm

Hi All, I've been playing drums for more years than I care to admit, and through the years, Yamaha drums both acoustic and electronic have become my favorite drums, as well as Yamaha hardware which in my opinion is the best. I currently use a double pedal that is very limited in adjustment capabilities.

I've been looking at the Yamaha FP9 Direct Drive Double Pedal for a few months and I am finally in a position to invest in one. I just realized they are longboard pedals and I have a small foot, women's size 7.

Has anyone with a small foot had experience with this pedal who could tell me if I would be making a mistake to invest in it?

I would really like to hear some drummers who have experience with the pedal.

Thanks,
Carol

Hi Carol - and welcome to the forums . . . .

We're trying to grow the drum section here, so you are MOST welcome . . . .

As you will have guesses from our Name, we're pretty much Yamaha fans here - 'tho we do cover MANY other makes too

I'm not a drummer myself, but would hope that some of our drummer members will happen by and help you out ;)

All that aside, it sounds like that pedal is seriously important to how YOU play, and as such, I would recommend

that you TRY it before you buy . . . . .(Only you can know if it fills the bill, so to speak)

I don't know about Yamaha's presence in the US. Here in the UK, they have a "Flagship Store" here in London,

where most anything can be seen and tried.

Hopefully you have such a store reasonably near you?

As primarily a Piano player myself, I would not consider buying a Piano or Keyboard without trying it first . . . . .

Thank you Parametric. I'll look to find a store here to see if I can try a pedal out, but I've never had a lot of luck finding a store with what I'm interested in. I do have good luck flying blind and buying products online. I've done that a lot with Yamaha drums, and hardware, and fortunately, they work for me. Not so sure I'll do that with this pedal though :)

Not sure what I was reading before, but I'm not seeing that the FP9 is a longboard pedal. I did see that is it as smooth as one, but that is just one drummer's perspective.

Still posting on this subject in case anyone else is interested :)

I DID take a look at these on Yamaha's site . . .

There seems to be TWO versions of this pedal, thought the SIZE seems NOT to be the difference . . .

there is a "Direct drive" version and a "Chain-drive" version . . . ?

NOT being a drummer, I don't know what the significance is of these types are . . . .

Perhaps it would be good to try both if possible . . . . (Y)

I know our member <JMS> (Jesse) is a drummer, though he has Tempus and Ludwig Drums . . . .
