Can't extract the firmware zip file

Unread post by technologist38 » Sun Dec 16, 2018 11:46 pm

Hello Musicians,

I bought Genos 6 days ago and my one week experience with it so far is amazingly outstanding. The instrument is currently on v1.10. I checked Yamaha's latest updates and found v1.30. Now, the problem is that I've been trying to download the zip file more than 6 times. Why? Because whenever I tried to extract it, it gives me data error status with fake extracted size. The file should be 300+ MB after extraction and it gives me 22 MB (LOL).

Uninstalled 7-zip and installed it back, still the same.
Stopped the antivirus service, still the same.
Checked the zip file for any CRC errors but nothing was found, so still the same.

So I guess the file is already bad at Yamaha's file server.

Is anyone else having the same issue?

Hi there,

not knowing/owning a Genos myself - but I've just downloaded the 1.30 firmware file (Genos Firmware Updater V1.30) from this Yamahe site:

https://de.yamaha.com/de/products/music ... loads.html

and had NO trouble at all to unzip it (using 7zip)! 8O

The downloaded file is 298.315 kB, the extracted firmware file is 320.035 kB...

Yes, I used the same link and downloaded it successfully but my problem is with the extraction. Glad it worked with you. I suspect something wrong at my end then. Like I said, I disabled my AV and reinstalled 7z. Don't know what else to do.

Downloading from a link should never be a problem . . .

If it had been an ftp operation, It could have been because the download client was set to <text> rather than <binary>

Its a strange one . . !

DO let us know if you find out what the problem was . . . .

I would first try a different program to unarchive it such as WinRar or WinZip

Or if you are running Windows 10 it has it's own built in unarchiver, just double click on the zip file or right click and extract to:

On the Mac it's same, use it's own archive function, double click the file and it should extract to a folder.

Jose, first of all, sorry for the late reply as I am currently relocating to a new apartment so I am in a huge mess :). And I couldn't reply to your message for unknown reason (simply couldn't find the reply button) but I read it. I will be more than thankful if you do what you've suggest in the mail.

Saul, I uninstalled 7z and reinstalled it back, tried WinRAR but still no luck. Downloaded the file again from a different link and still the same.

Jose, I am downloading the file now and I am also sorry for the long delay because I celebrated the new year with some friends at the red sea. :)

Thank you so much for the outstanding help you've done to me.

What a relief !! I can now update my Genos.

Happy new year, Jose. :)
