Matsushita EME-216Y floppy drive error

Unread post by Outof » Fri Jan 04, 2019 6:37 pm

I have a disk floppy drive that is supposed to be inside a Yamaha VL7 synthesizer. Not many were made, and the question is: could it be other stuff I could find a similar floppy drive that work?

I have tried to change the drive belt, that didn't work. I have also cleaned it, no success too. I am not shure what more I can do. I do not want a USB-stick replacement, but keep it as original as possible. Maybe there are other similar, that goes under different name, and could be easyer to find on eBay?

Any help would be appreciated.

That is unfortunate. These drives usually respond well to thorough cleaning of the pulleys - and a new belt.

Are you certain the belt is correct for that drive.

These drives are very sensitive to speed consistency - and a slipping belt, even a new one will give an error . . .

Does the motor actually spin when you access the drive in the VL?

Many boards of that era used these drives, and I'm sure there were not that many variants of it.

Problem is, it seems to be a closely guarded secret as to which boards used which drives . . . .

So you get the situation that a drive that is mentioned for a DIFFERENT board - MAY in fact be the same as yours. .

You might try and message this guy:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/cpmagneticme ... 7675.l2562

and ask if he has anything suitable for the VL7? He may know what other drives might be compatible?

It's always worth typing that drive name into google once in a while. Refurbs. do crop up occasionally . . .

Hi,

check this thread out: http://torlus.com/floppy/forum/viewtopic.php?t=608

I ripped my floppy out of my SY77 and replaced it with such an adapter + another, "modern", floppy drive. Worked perfectly.
