VL7 Gotek & FlashFloppy

Unread post by MacMan003 »

Hello everyone!

I am a new member - but have used the forums for information quite a few times.
I have become, somewhat, besotted by the Yamaha VL range of synths.
I recently obtained a VL7.

The floppy drive didn't work - after searching the forums, it was likely to be the belt.
So I took the brave(?) step of opening up the VL7 (I reached out to Yamaha for a service manual and was told they were not user serviceable!)
The drive is a Matsushita EME-216Y. The belt has completely perished.
I will follow the advice regarding servicing the drive, but thought I would try a USB drive.

I have purchased a Gotek drive and a 34 to 26 pin adapter.
I have FlashFloppy installed.

The drive is in place and works (as best as I can tell!) I've formatted the USB using HxCFloppyEmulator (on OS X)
The drive powers up and allows me to select different folders.
When I try and access the files via the keyboard - I get the message "ERROR : Disk not ready!"
I've tried formatting the drive using the keyboard with the same message.

I hope someone can offer some pointers!!!!

Thanks

Check your jumper settings. I believe for the VL with FlashFloppy the correct jumpers needed are M0 and S1

If that doesn't solve the problem, it may be the cable adapter -- the known good one is from Germany, eBay seller Feer1. There's been reports elsewhere on these forums about incorrect wirings, missing connections on others.

Hi,

Thank you for the advice.

I have tried different Jumper settings - including the one's you recommend.

The adapter does seem to work - as I have tried it with a three digit Gotek drive.

Thanks

Hello MacMan,
I'm wondering what 34 to 26 pin adapter you bought. I'm replacing my SY77 floppy with a gotek, but the seller didn't provide the adapter.
Thanks!
