Expert editor for PLG150-VL

Yamaha PLG150-VL
I just picked up a PLG150-VL for my S80. I found the old Visual editor but it's really limited. Some Yamaha articles make reference to the "VL Expert Editor" that worked with the PLG150 and VL70M. It was supposedly a free download on the Yamaha site.

I have searched high and low on the net and find nothing.

Does anyone know where I might get a copy of the old Windows XP version of the Expert Editor?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi,

Take a look at the following thread, for some new software. You can request a demo version to check it out

Thanks Derek. I may spend the money on that eventually. Still, I was hoping to find the old Yamaha advanced editor just to determine whether I really want to go down the rabbit hole of editing VL voices.

I gather it's too old to find anymore? I even keep an old XP laptop for stuff just like this. :-)

That's the easy editor that only allows access to a limited set of parameters. Thanks though.

I found this full editor for the VL70-m. It's quite old. I may try it on my old XP machine.
Should be compatible with the PLG as they use the same voice format.

The VL70-m manual mentions the Expert editor from Yamaha.

"The VL Voice Editing Software can be obtained via Yamaha’s XG
home page on the World Wide Web, “http://www.yamaha.co.jp./english/xg/html/
libhm.html”

That link is off course dead. I searched as best I could around Yamaha Japan to no avail.

IF I remember correctly, the VL Expert Editor is only available for the older Mac OS version 9.

If you want a modern Windows VL editor you can try out the VL-Wizard software, but it's not free past the trial period. VL-Wizard is available on both Mac OSX and Windows 7/8/10 but it's far more complex than even the Expert Editor. Be prepared to spend some time learning how it works, it can access EVERY parameter in the VL boards. It comes with a library of 100's of new voice patches, which I've found quite useful.

I think you are correct that it was Mac only. Here's a screenshot.

Looked like a rather powerful editor. Too bad they let it die.

I've seen that site but I don't think it's the same as the Yamaha editor and obviously targeted at the PC. I downloaded the file but haven't tried running it yet. Probably won't run well on Win10 if at all.

It's probably not worth chasing these old editors anymore with modern editor like VL-Wizard around.
