Request: PLG150-VL Visual Editor - MacOS

Unread post by wavesequence » Mon Oct 09, 2017 11:15 am

I've just bought a PLG150-AN from eBay (to be honest I'm still waiting for it...). The seller is Japanese and didn't provide neither a manual nor the original CD-ROM that accompained the PLG board.

Is there anyone here on this forum that can help?

Thanks in advance,
Regards

Hi,

The following thread may be of interest. And it claims to work with OS X as well. The odds of the old visual editor working on modern macs is probably next to nil.

Hello Derek
Thanks for your reply. In my endeavours I already found that page, but unfortunately the price of the editor itself is very high and makes the overall expense quite high. It makes no sense buying the 50€ basic version of the editor because it has no for of help or bug corrections. On the other hand it's too expensive buying the 150€ complete version because with the same money I could almost buy another PLG board.

Hi Wavesequence,
If you have access to a Windows computer, you can still run the XGWorks sequencer and install and run all of the PLG editors. I know it all works under Windows-7, and I've read where newer versions of windows will run it too. You can download everything you need here:
http://happyharry.net/yamaha/xgworks/

For MacOS, you have to purchase an old Mac and set it up for what you want. I don't have any of that software, sorry. Mac G4's and G5's are pretty easy to find, though.

Agreed their pricing is a bit strange. The question is how much do you want a modern VL editor on OS X as opposed to what Javelin has suggested, or the cost of finding and buying an old Mac.

Also, as a software developer myself, I know how much blood sweat and tears goes into writing software. I think you need to consider that for the Authors, they are selling this into quite a a niche market, where they are unlikely to sell 1000s of copies against which they can recover their effort. :)

I own 2 Apple Mac G4, a single 1.4Ghz and a 1.25 GHz DP, they're still in perfect shape, only the cooler resembles the noise of an aircraft. Thus my only concern at present is finding that piece of software.
I don't think I'll invest momey again to buy an editor for a board that is of secondary use. If I succeed finding Visual Editor for the PLG150-VL it's OK, otherwise I can live the same.
