GENESIS Pro- subtractive, FM, Phase Distortion, MultiWave and Rom Synthesis - For One Euro?

Almost ran out of breath typing that title but this looks to be one very interesting softsynth!

It is called 'Genesis Pro' and it the brainchild of DJ/producer Ummet Ozcan and the most incredible thing is he plans to market it for just €1 8O

Yes, ONE Euro!

Genesis Pro is a Hybrid Synthesizer and combines subtractive, FM, Phase Distortion, MultiWave, and Rom Synthesis in one very affordable VST. Did I mention that €1 price? Yeah, can't quite get over that. This is a LOT of synth for very little money.

Problem is, you can't actually try it yet and I am not sure when it will be released.

I guess the thing to do is bookmark the product home page and then watch this space.

I just saw on their website that GENESIS Pro will be released on March 12th. So if you have One Euro doing nothing, why not give it a try? Then let us know how you get on with it. Likes, dislikes, etc?

Last time I looked there were no sound demos to assess its worth. Sure one EURO is peanuts, but you’d think they would want you to hear what it sounds like. Maybe they do now?

Yep, kind of odd that there are no sound demos. I would have thought they would give copies to the media for testing but so far I can't find anyone who has tried it. I guess they are banking on the fact that for just one euro people are going to take a punt?

I won’t even waste a single euro if I can’t hear it first. I’ve got shitloads of VSTs so it will need to be special for me to get another one.

Well, just as we were saying there was no demo up pops a video from the creator of Genesis Pro himself.

Looks worth a euro to me (Y)

Ok now for the negative!

Genesis Pro doesn't work on a Mac. I guess he was going for the largest market and at the moment that is still PC and Windows.

It is 32bit only. that's an odd thing. I know he has been developing this software for quite a few years now but I would have thought that 64bit was the way to go. I am not a programmer so perhaps I am not seeing the whole picture here?

The fact that it is not Mac compatible is not great for me. I do everything on the Mac and I don't really want to be firing up the PC just to work with one software synth. I will definitely try it but it would have to be pretty special for me to use it on a regular basis.

From the First Look video, it looks like he may have used SynthEdit to create Genesis Pro-- or, if not SynthEdit, a program that uses a similar sort of UI for adding and interconnecting specific modules.

Yes, I did get the impression he had used a readily available tool to create his soft synth but, if the end result is good and it saves me doing it then I am happy to part with a euro :)

Looking at that Video, the methodology looks to be along the lines of MAX/MSP . . . . (connecting boxes)

MAX/MSP is simple in principle, but capable of mind-bending complexity (with the associated learning curve)

That is why I am more than happy to part with one euro. I don't have the time or inclination to climb a steep learning curve like that.

If all the complexity can be hidden away behind a slick, easy to use interface then I am definitely all for it (Y)

Mac only is not an issue for me, but strange in this day and age. However, 32 bit only is a no no as most hosts are now 64 bit only unless you use bridging technology.

I don't think I will be spending my Euro on this.

SynthEdit has been used to create some very good soft synth plugins, so I'm not knocking Genesis Pro for possibly using it. I was thinking more along the lines that it might help to explain why Genesis Pro is (so far) just a 32-bit Windows plugin. But when I was looking at the SynthEdit site, I saw that it comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions; and while it seems to be available only for Windows, there's a link that mentions creating Audio Units plugins with SynthEdit. So it might be that the creator of Genesis Pro hasn't upgraded to the 64-bit version of SynthEdit yet-- if that's what he used to create his soft synth-- and that he doesn't yet have any software modules or other requirements for compiling an Audio Units version of his soft synth.
