AN1X Guide Book Support Disk

Unread post by jima »

I'm sure Yamaha won't mind me putting this up here. From the Readme:

"The MDR data (2 files) contains the data for the guide (guide book voices and tweaks). The type 0 midi files contain the data for the guide, and also an additional set of 'bonus' voices for your pleasure."

Thanks, Jim

These MID files open nicely in an.factory where I can send them to the edit buffer to audition and there are some nice sounds in there, I just whizzed through a few. A good reminder of how classy the AN1x remains.

Glad to have been able to help! Are there any comparisons you care to mention between the AN1X and your Prophet given the alleged ancestry of the AN1X?

I haven't had huge opportunity to explore the Prophet much since I got it, due to some heavy work pressures, but I have been making some patches from scratch (why I wanted a knobby, hands on synth again), and the first one I wanted to make was a AN1x patch by MarcE (itself a facsimile of a JP8000 sound!).

So at the back end of last year I had both synths sitting next to each other and I had a go. The results ended up being close enough that it didn't matter when I had them apart, and, from memory the key difference was more in the effects. Yamaha have a very nice "symphonic" effects in synths like the AN1x and EX5 which is subtly different to chorus.

But when you listen to some of the PX Prophet presets, specifically the ones from the "deep sampled" Dave Smiths on P5 and T8 (and then processed via the PX) - I have never heard anything those out of the AN1x, and of course it would not be fair to compare the sample capabilities of the PX with the AN1x

But the AN1x is still a great VA at a fraction of the cost of the PX.
