that's my first posting in this forum
Great thread! Here is my wishlist for future MODX software updates:
a) Live Set: Notes section for creating a longer (multi line) text that will be display when a performance is loaded. The current slot name is way too limited! (I need this to remember in which octave I need to start or for some chords or voicings)
b) Live Set: Two more edit functions: 1. Inserting an empty slot between too slots (which should move further slots by one) and 2. removing a slot (which should then close the gap). These are functions I really frequently need when creating live sets.
c) Chord Hold function: Sustains a chord (can also be one single note) until the next note is played. Nord Lead 3 has it, Nord Stage 2/3 has it, DSI OB-6 has it, Kronos can do it - and I really hope to get this too for the MODX because I often need to sustain string or pad chords while playing a solo over these chords on a different part or on a different keyboard. (Sustain pedal is not a replacement for that
This function should be accessible with the touchscreen to be able to easily switch it on or off. And the state should be stored within the performance - for each track. (Maybe you want your pad on track 1 to hold the chords while you switch to the piano or lead sound on track 2 and play a solo with that sound).
d) Scene should include KBD Control. That means I want to have a piano sound with some variations for the second or third chorus like an additional pad sound or an fifth or octave added to the piano sound. I know I could add them with the mod wheel, with Superknob or with XA Control (Assign Switch Off, Assign Switch 1 On, Assign Switch 2 On) but that's way to limited. So I really want to activate additional parts with scenes (because there are 8 of them!)
e) Very important for session musicians: Nord calls it "Pending Load". Looking for a new sound (performance) while playing the old one and then confirm to load it when you need it. Maybe you are on a jam session and you're jamming one song, playing the verse (piano) and you know you need a organ sound 16 bars later. I couldn't find a way to search the categories and look for a sound without activating it immediately. When I found the sound I need I want to wait until the chorus and then click on it to switch to the new sound.
f) Extremely important
: Currently there's no way to switch off sending MIDI via USB globally. On my MoXF this is very easy: If I set the global MIDI send channel to "off" only performances that I explicitely want them to do send MIDI. I didn't find a way to do this on the MODX!! I would have to set Channel = off for every performance that I don't want to send out MIDI but of course this doesn't make sense. The background is: I use the MoXF with a Mac Book Pro running VSTi plugins and the MoXF works as an audio interface. This works great. But of course I don't want that every performance I choose sends out MIDI data and plays my GigPerformer instruments. I wan't to decide which performance send MIDI. This is not possible on the MODX like in my MoXF which means the MODX is not really practical as a notebook master keyboard solution. The MoXF is!
My workaround with the MODX was to configure the VSTi host (GigPerformer) so that it generally only responds to channel 9. That was the only way I can be sure that I don't accidentally trigger a notebook sound with one of the standard MODX performances.
I tested the MODX 6 in November, I had big expectations and I liked it very much. I often play TV and theater shows and I really want to replace my old MoXF with the MODX. But these (in my opinion very basic) things really kept my from buying the MODX so I kept the MoXF for now. And now I'm waiting for some more useful functional improvements
