Hi all.
It should be very nice to have the possibility to include parts >= 9 in scenes: i.e., in a live environment, scenes 1-8 should be for ensembles, while 9-16 for solos instruments, even within the limitations to 8 parts max.
Have a nice day.

FM-X Algorithms and the 2 Additional Operators

One thing that could be improved on with FM-X on the Montage/MODX synths is the variety of Algorithms available, especially with the 2 additional operators and how they are set as carrier operators in most of the algorithms. It would be great if Yamaha would add/provide more algorithms whereby they are stacked as carrier & modulator.

Here is an image where I have modified existing algorithms to demonstrate. If you check operators 1 & 2 in the actual algorithms on the MODX/Montage, they are both at the base as carriers and not stacked as you see here:
Image

Having said that, over the weekend I took a 'voice strings' sound that I had programmed from scratch on my DX7II over 30 years ago, and decided to see if I could enhance it. I found another sound that has a 'ghost-like' sound to it and broke it down, stripping out all operators and LFO settings until it had just a basic 'Awww' sound. Turns out it was 2 Carrier operators that provide this. After adding them to my existing 'voice strings' sound, which had those carrier operators volume set to '0', adjusting the volume of the 2 new operators along with several other common and operator settings, and with the "Pitch Change" effect giving them a more Unison voice quality, it definitely improved my old 'voice strings' sound!

Having enhanced a sound that I thought was great to begin with, I can imagine the possibilities of enhancing other existing DX7 sounds if there were more stacked carrier/modulator operator algorithm options. If it is possible, this sounds like a good one for IdeaScale! ;)

If there are enough people who like and support this idea, it might not be too much of a programming change for Yamaha to add new FM-X algorithms in the future, so I have posted my Yamahasynth.Ideascale.com idea URL below for anyone who reads this thread. If anyone likes this idea, please 'Up Vote' it ;)

Finally got my Modx 7,
Well...., obvious things first after hours of sorting things out...
1.Strongly suggesting to rework WHITE keys return spring movements.
(After quick non legato playing, keys are vibrating like on CHEAP CASIO toddler's keyboard).
Agree, i have got keys which i paid half of Montage price for , but anyway?

2. SCENES to be able switch PERFORMANCES and Live Sets

3.ADJUSTABLE LCD screen brightness.
(Its just does not exist).
In the evening time the screen is so bright that makes eyes tired very quickly.

4.Tricky but fingers crossed,
Make a CLICK OUT routing from HEADPHONES for a drummer .

And last, PLEASE IN FUTURE make a WORKABLE keyboard UPDATES for Live players , instead of (imho) useless tricks and toys like self playing arpeggios for home users and inspirations sake.

I know, they might say "Buy Montage or other synth etc" but still ... (why after a purchase we need to buy TONES of midi controllers for simple ability physically switch other Performances ?

Do Yamaha think that poking with wet fingers live onstage and LCD is a solution ?)

(Sorry but a bit disappointed with all that stuff coming back to my XS), no offences.

P.S

5. IN SCENES !!!!
Muted parts would NOT cutoff sounds.

(Using method of Lowering Volume works BUT when other Scene is chosen
lett other SCENE NOT to start playing till keys ARE OFF or Sustain is released from other SCENE).

7. MOST IMPORTANT

Ability to WRITE SCENES or any other edits to old LIBRARIE Performances without duplicating the same old Performance in USER area.

(Yamaha why the process of saving data is ALWAYS through the ar.....ss with you ??? On Motifs was not possible to save a single User Voice to USB without saving whole bunch of ALL VOICES ..etc.)

Why its possible with John Melas Editors but not possible with original JAPANESE product????!!!

Two years of shouting loud "Montage and MODX" and as a result a big disappointment...at least for me...

The only way I can see this type of functionality working in Scenes is for Yamaha to allow KBD CTRL to be managed/configured via Scenes, as that would provide for SSS-like switching between scenes without cutting off notes. And it would maximize polyphony...using Volume at 0 still counts against polyphony.

I added this below as an idea on YamahaSynth.ideascale.com and posted here as well. If you like this idea, please 'Up Vote' it on ideascale ;)

New LFO Wave setting: [Triangle - ]

Basically I would like to see in a future OS update, a new LFO Waveform setting/option [Triangle - ] to compliment the existing Triangle & Triangle+ settings under [PART] -> [Common] -> [Mod/Control] -> [Part LFO]

This would be especially useful to synthesize a more realistic vibrato of using a whammy bar on an Electric Guitar, whereby the pitch vibrato goes down from the main notes' default pitch. Basically the polar opposite of the Triangle+ option.

If you like this idea, please go on YamahaSynth.ideascale.com and 'Up Vote' it! ;)

Hi, as already mentioned in the Yamaha forum, the "Triangle-" makes sense to me. However you can already put a user LFO together which I think implements the Triangle-. I created it with 2 points, "slope up/down", level 0 for both steps. I think that's what you want.

PENDING LOAD FOR ANY PERFORMANCES how it was on Motifs (playing one voice and at the same time looking for the other voice ).
(Live sets is not a solution cause band plays more then 200 songs and Live sets are limited to 128 slots. Choice of the songs depend on the dance floor.
On the top of that WHEEL or other knob NOT working for selecting Liveset Banks).

With Wheel and pending load we could SCROLL via performances and activate it as needed.

When establishing a split in a Performance, and then changing the part maintain the key range of the split instead of having to reset it every time a new part is auditioned

A feature that allows to having a sound (e.g. strings/organs) in MODX, connected by midi, played in with an external keyboard (stage piano) and controllable with an expression pedal but off the keys, that I need to play other sounds.

That is already there. If you use the "Category Search" dialog to find the new part, make sure "Param. with Part" -> "Mixing" is not selected. Then the split point will be kept for the newly selected instrument.

A keyhold function would be great!

You can´t keyhold as in many other synths I´ve had!

( Dont improve things which were already GOOD on old Motifs) like:

1. Make possible to STAY on the SAME performance after storing it.

Every time after saving new from Library to User Performance ( when combining User Library) MODX jumps back to alphabetic beginning of the Library Performances to letter "A" .

Performance does not stay put where it was chosen. Every time i have to re-dial with wheel all the way up to desired patch.

2.When SAVING new patch please would it be possible TO CHOOSE the NEW location for saving , instead of having it stored somewhere in User by default.

3. When DELETENG performance from USER area the SYSTEM should POINT to the same performance in UTILITY mode .
( Its so ridiculous, going to UTILITY and scrolling to performance you want to delete, just where you have been a seconds ago. Its bloody BRAIN CANCER!!! )

(Freeses, crashes etc, soon i will shoot myself with Modx, or it will fly away out of the window....)
