MODX8 Cases and Gig Bags
Greetings everyone. What soft and hard cases are forum users using with their MODX8? Do you like what you are using?
How is the fit, durability, pockets...ect?
Thanks.

Re: MODX8 Cases and Gig Bags
It seems most people are using the Yamaha soft gig bag for their MODX. I don't use a bag or case myself because my keyboards never leave the house. I would though probably invest in a hard case if I were taking the MODX mobile as it would provide an added level of protection for the plastic chassis and that large touch screen.

I purchased The Gator Cases GTSA-Key88D for my MODX8. They both have a combined weight of @65lbs that’s manageable. But for a board so light, I wanted The best protection.

Re: MODX8 Cases and Gig Bags
I would never use a soft case for a synth like this. Touch displays and sliders and knobs are all too easily damaged in a soft case if it takes a hard knock on the top - e.g by something falling on it with a sharp edge. It does happen, and I know people it has happened to!
My Montage hard flight case was from SwanFlight (easy to Google). They make very sturdy cases. And they were happy to make adjustments to suit my spec.

I could Not have said it better! That’s EXACTLY why I bought The Gator hard case!Derek wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 7:52 amI would never use a soft case for a synth like this. My Novation Remote 61 was in a soft case, but that was a £200 board, but I was always nervous about it. When I make an expensive purchase, I always now factor in the cost of a decent hard case. In fact I have always moved my Roland FC300 in a soft case only because it is built like a tank and designed to be stomped upon, but I am thinking of a hard case for it.

Re: MODX8 Cases and Gig Bags
Obviously hard cases offer the most protection, but...a 88-keyboard hard case is a major pain to transport compared to a soft bag.
I've opted for a soft-case for my new MODX6, but one with a reinforced ('hard') shell on top.

Re: MODX8 Cases and Gig Bags
Hopefully that is a good compromise, but I personally would NEVER put a £1,000 synth in a soft case if you are gigging regularly. I tend to keep my hardware synths for over 10 years, so the cost of a decent hardcase spread over that period is not that much, and the gear lugging is my cardio!

Re: MODX8 Cases and Gig Bags
I gig several times a week. Which is why I don't want to lug a heavy, bulky hard case.
It's a compromise either way. I'm not concerned about the cost of the case.
This is the first board I've owned with a touch screen (FINALLY Yamaha makes a board with one!), so we'll see how it works out.
I applaud your positive take on the heavy hard case--exercise. (Which I could use more of these days)

Re: MODX8 Cases and Gig Bags
I too was sceptical about using a soft foam case with my new MODX8. I lived through the years of heavy Calzone cases for all of our equipment. We protected and cherished our hard earned gear when we had roadies and moreover when we didn't. I indeed purchased the Gator molded 88key GTSA. Definitely like it
