With a £500 budget I don't think you will have any problems at all getting good speakers for your MODX :)

The fact that it is quite a small room though will definitely influence your choices. I was initially going to suggest a pair of Yamaha HS7's or HS8's but they really are not ideal in small room.

KRK's work well for small spaces. Perhaps something like the KRK RP6 G3?

There are loads of options though and I am sure the guys here will have more suggestions for you.

Hi PF and welcome to the Forums . . . .

What a joy, making your own studio space . . . It's really the only way to work. I don't have that luxury,

so can't be much help on Speakers - as I have to use Cans . . . .(Which I DON'T really like doing)

Let us know how the build goes - perhaps some pics when you are finished . . . . ?

Music? - well, Floyd and Genesis tick the boxes for me, but I haven't played with other Musicians for years . . . .

Back then it was Guitar - and mostly Cream numbers . . . .

These days, I'm pretty much Keys and Reaper on the PC

I did attempt a Genesis track a while back . . . its here:

I have a small room as well and found the IK Multimedia iLoud monitors to work very well for me. These are specifically designed for small spaces and according to many reviews I seen and read, are the best bang for the buck out there at 299.99USD for the pair. There are some Youtube vids that go into more detail so check them out. If you have the chance to hear them in person, by all means do so. They're pretty impressive for a small monitor.

I have a small studio in my bedroom with a pair of the Adam T7V monitors arranged just behind and to the sides of the back of my MODX. They are on a bookshelf and the MODX sits in front, so they are at the same height as my head and about 5' apart and 4' away from my ears.

They are very flat and I can listen to them for hours with no fatigue.

Not sure what they cost in the UK, but they are $250US here in the States.

By sounds, do you mean samples? If so, the answer is yes, within the limits of the 1GB memory. I have the "scream" from Comfortably Numb loaded, since our vocalist couldn't quite get it right. I just assign it to one of the lowest keys so it is out of my way and trigger it at the appropriate place in the song.

If you mean the synth sounds that Richard used, you can get pretty close with the stock sound set. It takes a bit of programming, but it can be done. Also, the Scene function allows you to have different setups for different parts of the song. The only thing it CAN'T do is give you three hands to play all of the overdubbed parts. But, using Comfortably Numb as an example, I have a split with left hand doing a dark pad and right doing the higher string-synth sounds. I use my Hammond for the last part, but you could always have a scene with a big string sound in the left hand and the B3 sound for the right. Not perfect, but really close.

Hope that helps.
