SOLVED: Sure this cannot be done but.....

Unread post by pax-eterna » Thu Jan 24, 2019 4:07 pm

So, I want to use MODX with a laptop at gigs and use the USB along with audio as the interface, BUT I also need to use the standard MIDI out connector to drive an external bit of gear.

As I read it it cannot be done, is this correct? I mean, no-one has found a work-round?

Thanks

Actually to my knowledge it can be done with a bit of tweaking. At least on the Montage it can and I assume that it also works in the MODX. Basically the MIDI input and output of the Montage can still be used when switching to USB mode. In that case the computer (but not the Montage!) will get any data coming in over the Montage's MIDI in. Also when the computer sends to Montage MIDI output 3 (I believe) that data will be sent out of the Montage MIDI out, although the Montage itself won't see it. Basically the MIDI in/out act as an independent MIDI interface which is visible to the computer. So you would have to use something like Camelot Pro to route incoming MIDI data on Montage port 1 to Montage port 3. This should also work for the MODX.

I of course don't know your exact use case, but I think Camelot (or other similar applications) may be powerful enough to achieve what you want.

Brilliant, thanks m8 - it can be done after all. I must have misread somewhere it couldn't...or maybe missed the port three detail..
