Seamless Transitions What`s new

Unread post by Ivan Jochner » Mon Feb 18, 2019 7:13 pm

Just have met some "pros and cons " of (SSS) Seamles Sound Switches of Motifs and MODX.

Some of the users swear there is nothing new on MODX.

"Using the MOXF in song mode you basically have a MODX in performance mode but you can use the keyboard for all 16 parts instead of only 8.

No FM-X but if you don’t need that I see no reason to buy the MODX.

You can create multiple “performances” in song mode using the “receive channel” settings and have SSS of as many parts as you want (only 4 in MODX
).

So would someone clarify WHAT is actually better considering Seamless Transitions that we can not achieve on older XS/XF s.

Cheers!

Ivan

I do not know the XS/XF well, but I am pretty sure that the Montage/MODX is the first Yamaha synth to support seamless transition at Performance level. I.e. you can have an 8 part performance in Montage (4 in MODX) and switch to another one and the transition is seamless.

You cannot change a muti part performance to another one on a Motif and expect seamless transition. And you can use all 16 parts if you wish, but you then lose the seamless transition aspects.

In MOXF/XF song mode, you can seamlessly switch from sound to sound, but only within the group of 16 sounds you've previously setup within that song (and only 8 of those sounds can have their own effects). On the MODX, you can seamlessly switch to ANY other sound (of up to four parts), with no advance setup, and with all sounds having their own effects.

The MOXF method does provide for something you can't do on the MODX... seamlessly switch to and from sounds with more than 4 Parts, as long as the sounds you're switching between don't exceed 16 parts total (and no more than 8 of them have their own effects). However, it only works for the specific combinations you set up in advance. For example, if you set up an 8-part combination of sounds, you can seamlessly switch to another 8-part combination, but ONLY that one 8-part combination that you create for this purpose; and from there, the only sound you'd be able to seamlessly switch to would be back to the first combination of 8 sounds.
