Best music forum

Unread post by Patrick » Wed Aug 14, 2019 5:38 pm

Just a short thank you to Saul, Derek, and parametric.
I have visited many music related forums and this forum is the best.

The relaxed atmosphere and versatile subjects are a big plus.
I am a member of only a handful of forums and this forum transcends what a music forum is.

I have been on forums where the administrators/moderators clamp down so hard that one is almost afraid to discuss things,
or the opposite.
This forum is well balanced and friendly.

I think all the above is a reflection of the people who host forums.
If i rated this forum from 1 to 10, i would give it a 10.

Many thanks for making this forum the best. (Y)

Many thanks, but I would also say kudos to the entire community, who on the whole make this one of the best forums on the net. There are only a few I frequent as I am quite selective, and it is only the ones which are a pleasure to be in that get my attention. :)

You can tell it is a good forum, because very little moderation is required. The largest job the mods have is to kill the spam as quickly as we see it.

Thanks for your kind words Patrick. As Derek said it is the community here that make it what it is. A good forum is nothing without all the people who give their time to post questions and of course answer other peoples posts.

We are also extremely lucky to have a great team of moderators who are very quick to nail the spammers, sometimes within seconds of them posting ((i)) ((i)) ((i))

I do agree,
but I think you guys are to humble to take the credit you deserve, lol.

This forum does have great moderators.
In the few months ive been a member, I have not seen even one advertisement sneak in.

I agree with you Patrick. Already I've been spared days, weeks, and months of trying to learn things on my own. I've gotten great advice and good leads pertaining to keyboard --- things which are all new to me. Even though this new venture has been very humbling, nobody has ever made me feel stupid or bothersome. I was treated with kindness from the very beginning. That, by itself, has been therapeutic. Kindness helps with the transition. Just to give you an idea.. I used to joke and say to my husband, "If the house ever catches on fire, I'll make sure you, the family, and the dog are out the door ...some photos maybe, but then I'm grabbing my guitar and music. The other stuff can burn. Well, my house didn't catch on fire, obviously, but you never know what is around the corner. I can't navigate the guitar section yet ..it brings a little sting, but maybe at some point I'll explore that too.

Thanks Patrick -

I'll echo Saul's thoughts too.

Saul started the forum to seek out info to help fix his Yamaha SY85 . . . . .

When I joined - it was for the same reason. Info I got here enabled me to fix the floppy drive which

had gone bad . . .

Back then, I think the forum was mostly about boards - and mostly Yamaha . . . but a lot has changed

since then.

The String section has exploded in recent years and we have many knowledgeable users in here.

I find I'm learning new stuff all the time here . . .

Saul's approach to off-topic wandering creates a more "conversational" feel that seems popular and most

people seem to find that "comfortable" and therefore, a pleasing experience.

IMO, it's certainly one of the BEST forums of it's type on the Net, and I am proud to moderate in here.

When I was made redundant in 2009, I was "Music Tech Support" in a University Music Dept, so what I do

here is really just a continuation of that work - which I loved . . .

I DO miss the face-to-face interaction, but it's OK as-is, and keeps my brain from vegetating . . .
