Once Bitten Twice Shy

Unread post by Buzzard » Sun Mar 20, 2016 8:20 pm

In my opinion the original Mott the Hoople track can't be beat

Mott The Hoople had the upper hand, the GREAT guitarist Mick Ronson played guitars for Ian Hunter and David Bowie.

..................... but Great White comes close. 8)

Ah, I hadn't heard Godhead's Eleanor Rigby in years and forgotten how excellent it is! (Y)

Yeah, it's a good one, right? 'ave never been able to find much more from Godhead that appealed to me...

Either of these happen to work for you?

Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips and Maynard James Keenan of Puscifer released a cover of the classic Elton John track....

I loved the Beatles cover when I first heard it and really tried to like Godhead, but came to the same conclusion as you, they're more or less a one-trick pony.

Tool on the other hand I quite like, but that cover I think was a bit pointless since they hadn't really made it theirs, if you get what I mean.
Rocket man is just a plain awful song and I don't think that cover rescued it. ;-)
I'm so not an Elton John fan!

The Who's 'Pinball Wizard' turned out OK though.

Fair enuff. I've always been an Elton fan, but then a massive Tool / Maynard fan as well.

I do think there's quite a large distinction between "cover" and "remake," if you will.

From Tool's cover of No Quarter to this:

Quite like some Marilyn (thrash, industrial, shock-rock, whateva') from time to time:

Out of all the rather brilliant covers that Mr Manson's done, my favv is this

I wouldn't call his genre 'thrash' though. ;-)
