That's good news on the first day of a new year. Here's to some more good music making this year. My intention this year is to focus more on doing original stuff. As good as it is to play classic music like the Floyd, I am starting to feel that I am not doing enough on the creative front. :)

I both agree - and sympathise Derek . . .

I'm stuck ATM with lyrics for something I'm working on - it just WON'T come . . .

I've ALWAYS liked Floyd - and secretly would have loved to play some - with an outfit like yours . . . well at least some of the slower stuff  - but I never got to know any like-minded souls to try with . . .

Still, playing their stuff as you do MUST inspire - when you see the way the communication works - and the feedback you get from an audience?

It can only be a short step away from it being YOUR material . . . ?

You already know "how to do" - and have the confidence, acquired from many gigs?

Of course, you still need those like-minded souls who are "up for it" - to make it a reality . . .

I wish you every success with your own material!

It has been a privilege playing the Floyd, and it has taught me a lot about 'Floydish song structure and colours, so, yes, it does spin into the influence pot as does many other things :) And having to play the parts made me up my game in terms of proficiency.

But definitely time for some creative writing. I've started by going back to my Carreg Ddu material, some of which never really got pas the demo stage and it needs polishing into finished songs.

Looks like there's more fun on the way . . . .

I've just been made aware of this: https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats ... choir-2017

@Saul - If you remember, we met Josh Phillips at that Artist's Day for the Montage . . . ?

I remember him but didn't know who he was at the time. Kind of typical with me, more focused on the gear than the people ;)

That's great news though! and even more fantastic is you have been doing so much over the past 12 months! Seems there is a big demand for this mix of rock, full orchestra and choir at the moment...and long may it continue :)

Keep us posted.

Sounds good - SuperTsar. Sabbath are allegedly on their final bow out tour, so I guess this is a posterity session?

Tuesday's Choir-only rehearsal went well.

Apple fans will be pleased to hear that we rehearsed along with "The track" presented via a MacPro through a Bluetooth "Speaker" . . . . Not the highest of "Fi" - but adequate.

Quite tricky syncopated rhythm in the Supertzar track but rather satisfying when you get it together . . .

The Procul Harem stuff was new to me with the obvious exception of Whiter Shade of Pale, and Homburg which I did remember when reminded of it . . .

A mixed bag of scores - mostly from Sibelius, but some hand-written.

The problem of a gig like this is where to get the note from when you come in? Easy when you have a conductor score showing ALL the parts. We only have choir parts . . .

So much annotation was necessary to add "bar before" chords, as a cue . . . .

As is usual with sheet Music of this genre, much use is made of repeated section between the II: :II marks, FIRST and SECOND-Time Bars and also, use of the "D/S al Coda" type devices . . .

SO you have to be alert, 'cos you're also reading the notes, watching the conductor and obeying (hopefully) the in-score dynamics and expression marks . . . Oh, and SINGING

Here's a little peek at the Sabbath score:
Supertzar score snippet.jpg

Procul Harem "Sibeliused" Score snippet (Whiter Shade of Pale):

Procul Harem handwritten score snippet (Homburg):

Example score markup instructions . . .

So - a bit of an "insider" view on how these things "Come together" 8)

We were recommended by the conductor to view this previous performance (Ledreborg 2006) as a guide to how the RFH gig would probably be . . . .

Precise setlist and running order not withstanding

Off to Old Street to meet them, in a while . . . . 8)

Well have to say as someone who doesn't read music at all you lost me on most of that but interesting just the same. Obviously a LOT more work goes into these things than meets the eye...or ear in this case ;)

Sorted the youtube link :)

Ha Ha - nice one John . . . .

THAT looks like an "original score" - probably readable with no problem to "contemporary eyes" - but these days, a bit of a problem . . .

Is that a Tenor Clef I see?

Just goes to show that Music Notation hasn't changed that much (thank god) - at least THAT one has FIVE lines!

The mediaeval stuff had only four (as I'm sure you know) and some strange note-heads.

All good fun eh?
