Cheers Stringmeister.

Your profile picture needs an update, the bridge pickup is turned like the one on ebay.

Found the original guitar cable it came with.
After a quick soldering job it’s back in action.

Interesting, 1158 makes it the highest serial number in the SA-5 database so far. Previous one was 1146. First non SA-5 I have after 1158 is an SA30 with SN 1292

Asking an awful lot though!

I read up about the SA’s on your site. Thanks for the info. What a tone these things make!
Do you know much about the wiring and pots used, or the type of wood the body and neck are?
She’s almost mint and for sure my new favorite guitar!
you're already selling your new favorite guitar!

Lovely SA-5 on Reverb (756) but where do they get their pricing info from?

From the hype on this forum probably. That is the former “new favorite guitar” of ambient overlord.

Yeah, that has happened a few times to me... get bombarded with questions on my website and that it is such a great guitar only to find out it is a blimmin dealer....

I trust the overlord will come down to earth pretty soon...

Thinking about taking a chance on this green one that has been on Reverb forever:
https://reverb.com/item/15776524-yamaha-sa-5-1966

I know basically nothing about these guitars except that I love Yamaha and pretty much everything from Japan. I'm not even a good guitar player, I just started a few months ago.

I don't know why but this green monster just speaks to me.

I like to play jamband lead stuff. Trey Anastasio plays a full hollowbody and most of the current players in that scene use at least semi-hollow. Gives that nice fat tone.

I fantasize about finding a sweet full hollow-body that will still give decent sustain and sound good driven with the right pedals.

What say you all? How foolish would it be to roll the dice? Can this guitar function as I describe?

Try to borrow a hollow body guitar locally and try things out first.
That particular SA-5 no longer has the plastic anti feedback baffles, no pickguard either and bridge is not original. Looks like it is well played so expect frets to be low, can't see the actual condition of the frets on the photos.
