Yamaha SA50

Unread post by Mimasu » Fri Oct 12, 2018 9:42 pm

New to my collection, a dark green SA50 from around 1967.

I have some SA50's already, even in dark green, but not a single one with original case. This one has :D .

Nice. I like that the SA 50 had interesting selection of colors. The green is the best imho

I also notice you have the rectangle case as well. From what I heard from a guy who buys and sell in Japan those cases are in demand.

Always wanted a green one. Algae Green I've seen it called among other things.
Yours looks near mint. Did you buy it on line?

Near mint, but only as far as the front is concerned 8). The back has some buckle rash and the input plate is bend, as with so many SA50's :?

But the front looks great, fantastic playability.

I plan to sell one of the two I have now. Without the case :D .

But I'm afraid it's gonna be a hard choice. This one plays better, the other one looks better (than one is really near mint>

I got her from ebay UK. Hope buying from the UK stays as easy as it is now, if they have left EU. Otherwise it will cost me an extra 25 % :( . No more guitar shopping from the UK then I'm afraid.

This one plays better,
Hey Leon, interested to hear more why you think this. Is it a matter of it having a better setup or are there other factors at work?

In this case, two identical guitars (even the colour 8) ) it's the set up. The combination of neck relief, string height, and fret condition. The last one has a very straight neck and the strings can be very low without any buzz.

In general I think the set up is secondary. I would prefer a great sound on a lesser set up over a lesser sound on a great set up guitar. But, the combination of great sound and great set up wins :D .

I played a lot of country in the old days. I love the sound of strings slapping a little against the fretboard. So in general I love low action.

Absolutely lovely guitar and a fantastic color.

If you sell one, will you be putting an ad here? I'll be looking for it....as will many others, I'm sure

The paint has reacted to a coil style instrument cable. The plastic or rubber material emits gasses as it ages and it melts the finish.
