Yamaha guitars you would love to see a model run or reissued

Unread post by Asmikace » Sun Nov 04, 2018 7:10 pm

Hello everyone, just to bring some discussion here. Is any Yamaha guitars you would love to see to have model run or reissue? Here is some of mine.

That Tommy Bolin SX guitar. Was a mix between the 125 and the 800/900B with a tremolo. If Bolin never died, the SX series could have the same reign as the SG 1000/2000 line.

Never really listen to Grim Reaper but Nick Bowcott had cool SG a Union Jack flag. Not sure if it had locking tremolo or stop tail.

The elusive SG 2000 Deep Purple. Wish it wasn't a limited run since it was such a nice color on the SG.

Any of the SGV range or a SG2C would do it for me. Just love the quirky shapes :)

Eastwood is doing a SG2C run. Did you put money for that run?

Sure but we are talking about a 'Yamaha' reissue right?

That is definitely an interesting guitar, and a wish list (dream list) addition for sure.

I would love for yamaha to make a upscale verison of the classic SA 50 or 60/90 with the same trimings of the SA 2200. I really like the body shape of the vintage SA and would be cool if they kept it for legacy. Still I am happy that they made the SA 2200 as the best 335 style i ever played

Hello everyone, just to bring some discussion here.
OK, let's discuss 8)

I think Yamaha has a bad reputation on reissues. At least some of them. Especially reissues of vintage guitars, or anniversary series etc. I think they once reissued the most famous and known vintage acoustic: the FG180. And the problem: It didn't look like a real FG180 and it wasn't built like a real FG180, and I never played one but I doubt if it sounded like a real FG180 :( .

I think reissues might be usefull for guitars that are almost impossible to find if you wanted one. That would be OK with me.

But I'm an old guy loving old guitars. The feel of old guitars, the smell of old guitars (or perhaps that's the smell of the guy that played the thing over the last 50 years  ). But who cares.... I don't.

I once visited a store, I think about 10 to 15 years ago, that had a whole bunch of new 'reissue' SG2000's for sale. They looked great, fantastic craftmanship, shiny new etc. I played some and ther were OK, sounded good,

They were priced at around 2000 euro. That time you could buy a great 70'ies SG2000 for half that money. I know there are people that don't understand anything about vintage guitar lovers, and perhaps these are the real sane people, but I wouldn't think of buying a reissue for 2000 while I could have the real thing for 1000.

And never forget: If it has been played a lot and is still good after 50 years, it will easy live another 50 years.

I agree with Leon, I like old guitars much more than new ones, although I do have some new ones too.

For the more elusive ones, tracking them down is half the fun! :animals-chickencatch:

I've also found there were many more interesting models made for the domestic Japanese market than export.
Case in point the SG 2000 DP was a Japan only limited run model. They did make 600 of them, so they do come up regularly for sale.
At the same time as the DP they did a (royal?) blue SG 2000 but it seems they only made 200 of those, so they don't come up nearly as often.

The SC1200. I had one, and then while a young, impetuous fool, sold it.

Indeed, but that's what young impetuous fools do,I suppose 8) .

But you're lucky..... don't need a reissue or new model run, these old SC1200's are for grabs (overhere in Europe at least). I see a few each year passing by and getting sold for only 500 to 700 euro. That's a real bargain. These guitars are very underrated. If you wanted to build a guitar of this quality woods and that great craftmanship nowadays it would cost at least twice that money, even if made in China.

SC1200 in USA and canada tend to go for 8-900 euro and only 1 or 2 show up a year. Most are in fair condition.
