I'm thinking about getting my first electric guitar.

Could you help me out finding a guitar that [illegal links removed - jima] fits my price range? I'm thinking that anything over $500 would be too expensive.

Are there any good beginner guitars that still provide decent quality, so I can keep playing on it when I get better?

Welcome to the forum JJ :)

I don't think you would have any trouble at all finding a good quality guitar under $500. There are so many to choose from. Are you looking at Yamaha in particular? If so you there are the Pacifica's from the 012 to the 212. Also the Revstar RS320 falls within that $500 limit as does the Yamaha RGX121Z although I think that one might have been discontinued. It is still available though for around $2-300.

Do you already have an amp or does that need to be factored into the $500 limit?

What is your favorite music and guitar players . Most guitar learning will be done sat down at a laptop so get something small bodied and perhaps with rolled edges for comfort . Don't buy Flying V or weard shapes as they are almost impossible to play sat down .

Hi Jerryjones, welcome to the forum and the string section.

I think you have to let us know it your total budget includes buying an amp and what styles you want to play.

Buying second hand is also a good alternative.

Hey Heseil, welcome to yamahamusicians.com :)

I did a similar thing myself back in the early 90's. Part exchanged an acoustic my mother had bought me when I was younger in order to get my then girlfriend a new guitar. Years later she spotted that it was still hanging in the store and I bought it back. It wasn't a great guitar but it had sentimental value. I kept it for another 15 years but it was totally unplayable by then and certainly not worth the effort to try and fix it so I let it go.

Amazing what you can get for such little money these days though :)

Yamaha Pacifica....best model under your max price.

After 40 years of playing its always my first recommendation.

All models perform above their price point, and there versatile. Until you find your sound, and comfort you should go for playability, and flexibility, can't really best the Pacifica for that.

For under $500 USD, you can't go wrong with a used Pacifica 612/611 or Mexican Fender Strat or Tele since they pump so many out it floods the resale market. There are many good brands, I really like anything that comes out of Korea for bang for buck like from the Peerless, Samick or Cort. Had some great guitars like my Joe Pass Epiphone, BC Rich Pro X mockingbird, Kramer 84 and Washburn Idol.
