Yamaha SA20

Unread post by Mimasu » Sat Mar 30, 2019 3:45 pm

Added a Yamaha SA20 to my collection. Must be 1969/1970 by the serial. Very weird thing: Looking at the frets and fretboard the guitar must have been played a lot. That's very unusual for an electric 12 string. But as said weird: the rest of the guitar is in fantastic condition. So it's possible: playing the sh*# out of a guitar and while doing that keeping the guitar in like new condition ((i)).

BTW: Also another addition to the collection, but that one's in de acoustic department

Killer guitar Leon. Nice grain showing. Red seems to have been a real favorite color back in the day as they seem to show up the most.
As to fret wear maybe the previous owner was in a Byrds cover band.
Congratulations on a new beauty

Nice, those early Yamaha single coil pickups aged well and well suited for that 12 string jangle.

Okay, I know it is the 1st of April, so you are probably winding us up.... But I'll bite anyway....

All the Superaxe pickups are humbucking ones, not a single coil to be found on any of them!

Oh, and that is a nice SA-20 indeed. I prefer that colour over my green one (when the light is low).

Shoot, I thought the SA 20 had those thin pickups like the SA 5 and 30 that I assumed where single coil under a tiny humbucker cover. You know how those early japanese guitars took awhile to adopt humbuckers.

Not an original colour as far as brochures go but still very appealing IMO. Looks like a professional refinish job as well.
