Don't take too much notice of serial numbers they only made that model in 1968 and there were no reissues yours is a 1968.
Bill, I have 4 snapshots I have taken from the old Yamaha database site for the SA15 2 snaps and for the SA15D 2 snaps. One says that the model was released in 1968 and discontinued in the same year. The second one states the same but that the SA-15D continued
in the Autumn of 1968.
The 3rd one say released in 1968 and discontinued in 1972. The 4th states released in 1968 and discontinued in February 1972.
My theory derived from my database is that all superaxes and the AE series were given sequential, unique serial numbers. If that is correct then this particular guitar is most likely a late 1971 based on the relatively high serial number.

That's interesting thanks for that I may have to do some revisions of my pages. The database currently states that the 15 was discontinued in 1968 and the 15D in 1972. But the database is frequently wrong as is noted in several of my pages. I guess at best we can say we don't know but is is probable that the 15 was made until 1972.

in the official catalog in the second post it does state humbuckers, but everybody says there single coil.
also I saw this one with a lower number states 1969 I will include pics as I cant post a link, mine 19988 looks like they are sequential
Yamaha SA-15 Hollow Body Black 1969
On mine I dont think the nut is original. also its common to see no truss rod cover
Thank's Bill for the parts list will come in very handy even if I cant get the part I will look for a major guitar store in Japan
they might be able to order the tremolo they all sell their guitars on Ebay so will try to contact them from there.

Thanks for the great info will try and order parts if possible I am not out to make money I would never sell this guitar
I think mine is a later model the date on these are stamped on the fretboard close to the body, most I have seen are from the sixties 669 meaning 1969
On mine, it says 19988 so it must be a 1998 model made in Aug they must have reissues
that is not how these serial numbers work
17 BB734A (TMB), 16 RS620 (BCC),16 RS502T (BGR), 84 BB1200S (burgundy), 82 BB1200S (burgundy), 80 BBVI (BL), 79 BB1200 (ST), 79 BB1200 (NT), 78 BB1200 (ST), 74 SA-70 (sunburst), 69 SA-30T (sunburst)
