Anybody Know anything about this Yamaha

Unread post by john wilkinson » Mon Apr 29, 2019 8:59 pm

I just bought this guitar looked interesting I already fixed the Jack just needed a nut still needs setting up.
it looks like it might have had a tremolo arm but dont see any springs
I saw another guitar on Craigslist and he said he had more, and this was the one I got, it was a liquidator so it was cheap.

it says made in Japan on neck plate.

WOW I got a lucky find over all very nice condition plays and sounds amazing.

I saw a post on Craig’s List for a bullet very cheap $45
I contacted him and he asked which guitar I wanted, send me some pics as soon as I saw the Yamaha I was attracted to it
I asked how much he said asking $50 I went to see it and bought Bullet and Yamaha for $30 each with cases
He showed me more guitars and said his dad had told him to get rid so I bought remaining 6 with cases for $10 each
I could have got Yamaha for $10 if I had not offered $30
It’s a liquidator he said it’s all free, all they have to do is take it away, because I bought so many he wanted my phone number when he gets more.
This will make up for the Japan Strat I just bought that turned out to be a Korean plywood body.

its been butchered a bit with tremolo and spring missing wonder if I would be able to order parts
Seems like black is rare most on Ebay black, I prefer red

You hit gold and with more chances for guitars to come, I am very jealous. Is the case original to the guitar? I would value the guitar for around $400-500 so you got the guitar for a tenth of the price. I think it can use any spring style tremolo and you could probably rig up a truss rod cover for it. With the stuff to complete it and a nice set up, you will get a nice player and wonderful sounding guitar like in the video.

Wow what a find! ((i)) ((i)) ((i))

I have come across some fairly cheap keyboards in the past but never any guitars that were worth buying. Market is too small here I think and people are generally clued up on values.

Great find! One of my favorite styles of Yamaha.
I lent one of mine to a friend and he said he could not get the intonation quite correct but other than that it was a blast to play.

It really reminds me of a Mosrite or Martin semihollow which themselves are funky and obscure.

Thanks for the great info will try and order parts if possible I am not out to make money I would never sell this guitar
I think mine is a later model the date on these are stamped on the fretboard close to the body, most I have seen are from the sixties 669 meaning 1969
On mine, it says 19988 so it must be a 1998 model made in Aug they must have reissues

Don't take too much notice of serial numbers they only made that model in 1968 and there were no reissues yours is a 1968.

They actually did reissue this style but it was called an SARR and had a tele style single coil at the bridge and a humbucker at the neck. Body is smaller and headstock somewhat different. Pretty hard to find but fun if you can score one.

Once you get the guitar all wired good, you are going to like the single coil pickups. I had a SA 30T sounded great and had a blend knob, regret selling it but it was either it or my SA 60.

They are actually humbuckers, check my website and you'll see photos of them opened up. Can't blame you for saying so as even Yamaha has got it wrong on their guitar History Pages. :)

What a steal that is! Looking good and with a few small changes it will be good again.

I just bought an SA-30 without whammy bar, spring and spring adjustment. I have sorted the spring and its adjustment. Also sorted the screw and now I am in the process of making a stainless steel whammy bar version. Will post some photos once I have it all going again.
