1982 Yamaha SG1000 or 2000 help to identify

Unread post by Wire-and-Wood » Mon May 27, 2019 9:11 pm

Hi Guys. Hoping for help identifying this amazing guitar. Has. 3000 truss cover that I’m sure is from another guitar. Non original pups knobs and rings. Has the most amazing shaped heel

I can't really tell with the pictures. If its a 2000, it would have a neck through body and can possibly see or feel the construction on the guitar.

The heel does look like it has had a repair of some kind. Looks not original. If you pull out one of the PU's you can check from the inside if the guiar has a neck through design or not. Would bring us closer to the answer 1000 or 2000. Perhaps even another SG.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I took a look and its a glued neck also the pickup cavities were both once routered to fit two over sized pickups in the past. these have since been filled back to take humbuckers again.

I can't seem to see the brass sustain plate underneath the bridge in the photos, which is a unique feature on the 2000.

1982, glued neck, gold hardware, no sustain plate. That would narrow it down to a SG1000 I think. Other gold hardware SG's with glued neck are 1983 or later (SG1600 etc).
