Rarest of the rare

Unread post by NYGeorge »

Has anyone ever seen a Yamaha TSG in person. It's the one with the semi scroll instead of the upper cutaway. Some would say it's too bizarre but it must be rare as even one of the sellers Japan that I deal with has never actually seen one. Even a Google image search turns up nothing.

Watch closely at 6:58 it goes by pretty fast.

Yamaha TSG , Rarest of the rare

Unread post by Buzzard »

Hi George.

 If you Google "Yamaha tsg" a few pictures and only very little info is available. :(

Here's links to what I found so far:

http://vintageguitarrental.com.au/guitars/ (guitars for rent , scroll down almost all the way)

http://brochures.yokochou.com/guitar-an ... en_05.html (1985 catalog)

http://aucview.aucfan.com/yahoo/u33742040/ (ended auction)

Cool guitar, it seems to have only one volume knob and a 3-way pickup selector.

Not seen one for sale in the last two or three years of watching Ebay, certainly never seen one in person. Never heard of them until now. Quite intrigued they don't appear in the preserved Yamaha Archives even

YEG-100A , Rarest of the rare

Unread post by Buzzard »

There's another rare Yamaha: YEG-100A looks like a TSG on steroids. ((i)) :D  8)

That TSG is a real eye catcher. That old yearning has started again. I wonder how many were made.

Not so sure about the YEG. Maybe the bird is too much? But I like the idea of the relationship of the headstock and upper bout. It nearly works.

The YEG has an almost Burns like headstock and if the archives are to be believed was released in 1988 at 800,000 yen which is almost £4,400! Amazing price. For comparison the SG510 was released a couple of years earlier at 50,000 yen

Also read on one forum that the YSG was a precursor to the MSG and there certainly are similarities MSG Martin's solid guitar so maybe YSG Yamaha's solid guitar??

Peter
Thanks so much for the links. The Aussie rental site says only 59 were made so I guess it will always be just an object of GAS for me. I even like the YEG although I suspect that is probably even rarer and the bird inlay would really put the price in the stratosphere. I'll have to "settle " for and Image/MSG. It's been on my list along with a Weddington for a while but has always been preempted by something older.

I asked another seller in Japan if he had ever seen one. He said he had but they are wicked expensive even over there. He thinks he might have sold one in the past but couldn't really recall for sure.

There seems to have been a proliferation of higher end ( or at least higher priced ) Yams on US Ebay lately. The Bluejeans series and other Japanese artist signature models. Not much relevance to me and probably others this side of the Pacific. As you have no doubt guessed by now I watch Ebay Yamaha listing faithfully so if a TSG shows up I'll let you know so the rich guys can have at it.

This is from a Harmony Central Forum

Some of the 'limited edition' or custom models of the SG line had 'limits' of 200 (like the TSG) or 40 (like the SG-2004 (20 each of amber and gray) but the word in Japan is that only 59-60 of the TSG were made. And I know a couple of the SG-2004s have been modified. Then I saw a YEG-100A on a website (Yamaha advertised it before it was sold as being a limited edition of 20) for a dealer in Japan and dug around some more on the interwebicals (in both Japanese and English) and I can't find a single reference to anyone seeing or owning one other than that one example - which is now sold.

Yamaha MSG/Image fans know that the Custom model has led dots on the upper side of the fretboard ..............

............. so does the YEG-100A, an absolutly useless feature, but loved by us gadget geeks. :D ((i)) 8)

Image Image

Both the TSG and YEG models are not likely to join my collection in this lifetime, but a Yamaha MSG/Image can do the job nicely. (Y)

Well you've really done it now Peter. A close up was NOT what I needed to see but thanks anyway. Strangely

Bill
Is the Harmony Central quote from the Yamaholics thread there? Haven't checked it out in quite a while.

Peter
I've drooled over these in another thread. Beautiful and on my list.
Do you know if the SAS series is the same size as the Image? They look very similar style wise.
