THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO ROCK!

The Red Rocker has enjoyed a charismatic life on the top for more than 30 years. From his days with Montrose to a hugely successful solo career to nearly two decades of Van Halen.
Among it all, Sammy has also found the time to establish Cabo Wabo™ – the #2 premium tequila in the world and a group of successful nightclubs of the same name.
With the help of Yamaha's custom shop in Hollywood, CA.
Sammy has created his signature guitar based on the award-winning AES620 mixed in with a bit of the Red Rocker's own touches.
The AES620 SH features a mahogany body with a figured maple veneer top powered by two humbucking pickups including a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge.
The set-in mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard are enhanced with the world-famous Cabo Wabo™ logo inlaid at the 12th fret.
The custom red color is based on the Red Rocker's favorite translucent red finish.

A STUNNING NEW LOOK
Building on the success of the award-winning AES620 solid body,
Yamaha has created an alternative to those looking for the playability and tone of the AES620 with a slightly different look.
The AES620HB is a chambered body version of the popular AES620.
A quick glance shows the AES620HB contains the same great specifications as the AES620 with through-body stringing,
Yamaha's signature finger tailpieces, and a Seymour Duncan JB bridge matched with a custom Alnico neck pickup.
A closer look shows the AES620HB takes the quilted maple top on a mahogany back and adds Yamaha's unique "F" hole design,
to craft not only a stunning look, but creating a unique hybrid sound.
Other features include a mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard, individual volume controls and master tone, and dramatic Blonde and Old Violin Sunburst finishes.

:D Could be, I stated collecting info and pics friday, and made a test upload saturday (removed again, cause it wasn't good enough)

Today the project is acceptable, but I still find some mistakes or false info that needs sorting out.
Eventually, this will be a complete AES page including all models, being a reliable source of information.

All models are pictured, and most color variations shown.

Let me know if I've missed a model or two, and please comment on any incorrect info.

I'm still missing a few production years and countries.

I don't know enough about the AES to comment on whether you missed any info there Peter but what I can say is what a superb job you have done of providing this information. It's probably a good thing I don't have any spare cash at the moment because I am pretty sure I would be hunting down a few of those models pictured. Not sure I would get time to play them but would be great to have them hanging on the wall :)

Even though my main passion is the vintage Yamahas, I have accumulated a handsome sum of new models too.

Funny thing, until lately, I found the AES guitars less interesting, but after buying my 6th. AES, the number is only exceeded by my RGX guitars.

So why did I actually buy them ?
Well basically, they are Les Pauls on a budget, but lighter, carved for a better fit and feel ..... and a sound that can compete with the LP brand.

Once the AES guitars become vintage, my guess is that they will be sought after, but who knows ..... I really don't care, mine were bought to be played.

Hi Peter
You appear to have all the info except missing some countries of manufacture always hit and miss with Yamaha indeed if you refer to my SA pages some models are made in more than one country. So missing ones are all 620 range and the 520 are Korean. The 800 as you say is made in Taiwan BUT I have seen definite evidence that some 800s were made in Japan. I believe that all models numbered 820 and above are Japanese.

I haven't seen 800s b or otherwise any sold on Ebay since 2015 when two 800s and one b were sold as below
Yamaha AES 800 Newish Taiwan Red £122 CIP May-15
Yamaha AES 800 1998 Taiwan Sunburst £200 Jan-15
Yamaha AES 800B Taiwan Blue £261 Jul-15
I also have two in 2014
Yamaha AES 800b Taiwan Blue £155 Aug-14
Yamaha AES 800b Taiwan Blue £138 Sep-14

So maybe £250 is not far off. Based on very little evidence though

Thanks Bill. Ok so probably don't pay more than £250 would be a reasonable benchmark then. Will have to put it on the watch list but I'm betting one comes up just as I have too much cash going out and not enough coming in ;)
